Towing observation on the new GM HD's...

Got to watch The Long,Long Trailer

mis-labeled?

Think they mis-labeled those mirrors. Look like the same mirrors that are on my truck and the only power on mine is by "armstrong!" Would be nice if they were though.

Not to burst your bubble, but if you go to this page and click on "NEW! 2002 DR Truck Accessories" you will end up at the mirrors. Rather than the mirrors being mislabeled, I think the wrong photograph is used.

Mopar's 2002 Ram accessories catalog has the same photograph and much of the same text. The catalog also implies that manual mirrors are available for all Rams and powered mirrors are available for new Ram 1500 models if equipped with factory-installed electric side mirrors.

It looks to me as though the powered tow mirrors only fit the new sheet metal.

Someone on the forum claims to have a demo set of the power towing mirrors on a HD RAM. He also mentioned that the 2002 1500 truck does have power heated towing mirrors available. He went on to mention that if you bought the power heated mirrors for the 1500, and attached them to the HD truck with the parts from the non-power mirrors, that it would work. You would need to add the switch and wiring. Chime in please.

Wouldn't you know it? I just installed the power adjustable and extendable, heated Power Vision towing mirrors last weekend. Now something better and cheaper is gonna hit the market! :( Sigh...

There aren't too many "parts" to the towing mirrors for the pre-2002 Rams (P/N 82206157). Other than the mirrors, there is a plate that stiffens the door sheet metal and three hex nuts. Mydodgeparts.com is showing 82207297 & 82207298 as part numbers for the new 1500 manual & towing mirrors, while they show 82206157 as the part number for Ram 2500/3500 towing mirrors.

Maybe P/N 82206157 is the same as P/N 82207297 plus the stiffening plate:confused:

Thomas, You may be right, but isn't the sheet metal on the 2002 Ram 2500 & 3500, the same as a 1998. So the mounting bracket would fit a 1998 Ram.

I had my PowerfulVisions installed 2 weeks ago. I should have done it 2 years ago! I Iove 'em! The "Donkey Ears" mirrors that DC offers won't go into my garage. Even if they did, they are UGLY! mi dos pesos... ... ... .

RBerry,

This is correct: "... but isn't the sheet metal on the 2002 Ram 2500 & 3500, the same as a 1998. So the mounting bracket would fit a 1998 Ram. "

My belief is that the mirrors sighted in your original post DON'T fit the model year 2002 Ram 2500/3500's—only the model year 2002 Ram 1500's.

Thomas,

You are right. I just called them on the phone. Those mirrors only fit the 2002, 1500 truck. I guess We'll just have to wait, until someone makes a mounting bracket, to fit the older trucks.

Here is what they told me when I asked about my '96.

unfortunately, the answer is no. The DR (4-door) mirror is different in mounting and electrical connection. You would, however, be able to use part#82206157, a 7x10 manual mirror for you 1996. They run $202. 50 on our website and normally retail for $270. 00. Here is a link on our website for information on this mirror.
