Hey Everybody, I'm new to this web site but have been a CTD owner since 97. I just took delivery of my new 05 with a auto trans and wondering what performance box to go with on the common rail motor. I just sold my 2000 that I had a EDGE drag comp on and really liked that, but was wondering what people were liking the best for the 3rd gen. I also am not sure of how much the auto trans can take. Any help or info will be great.

Thanks

Try a search, it has been covered a million times. If you want my opinion, the TST PMCR is the way to go, if you have some self control. .

Uh OH, a new BOMB addict. The choices are growing everyday. Do a search on TST, Edge Juice, Ramifier, Banks, Quad XZillaraider, Bully Dog Power Pup, Xcellerator, and others.

I have tried a Dr Performance Stage II fueling box, Edge standard Juice/Attitude, Quad XZillaraider Race and now the Edge HOT Juice/Attituce box. May eventually get to the TST PowerMax and Bully Dog Power Pup downloader before done.

From my experience and over a years worth of reading posts it seems like "low or no fuel pressure" boxes or downloaders (mostly timing and duration) in the 80hp range are safe for the 48re. Anything with more hp/torque can potentially cause 48re pain.

I like the Juice/Attitude and the Quad XZillaider was a very good box also. I did not like the way the Dr Performance fuel pressure/boost fueling box made the truck run.

Oh I've been an addict for quite sometime, my 2000 that I just sold had a edge comp (drag), banks monster exhaust, high ram intake, extreme air filter, XXX injectors, piers HX-40 turbo, south bend clutch and it seems the list could keep going on. So anyway I had a truck that really ran good, and now I have a automatic stocker that is needing some performance. Thanks again for your help!

I have the BDDL set on performance mode for everyday driving, and towing. Gave me about 100-110 hp on the dyno a couple weeks ago, set on extreme. But, extreme slips the transmission. I suspect I'm around 70-80hp at the wheels on performance mode, and the driveability is excellent. No transmission slip. Even towing a 10000 lb load, I won't hit 1200 degrees on the EGT gauge, pulling uphill at 65.

I'm sure the BDDL works as advertised, and is a good product.

I would be wary of it, however, if you think you may want to go in another direction later. It appears that when you re-load the "stock" program, it is not the same "stock" program as once in your ecm. It actually reloads a pre-programmed "stock" program in the BDDL itself. This seems to cause problems with codes when switching over to other types of timing/duration boxes.

I myself am delighted by the Quadzilla Xzillaraider Race box. One sweet unit. Installs quickly, in-cab adjustability, and great driveability. You can use cruise control, even on the highest settings.

I have never seen a code, and haven't had any problems, except for my inability to keep my foot out of the throttle enough to get good fuel economy. I did gain 1 mpg on a long distance trip on the 60 setting with cruise set to 75-80mph.

I dynoed w/ the 100hp box (before I upgraded) and it made power as advertised.

Huge clouds of smoke at altitude with my truck on the 140 setting at 7k feet :D

Steer clear of BDDL. I know I have posted this before, and it has been said earlier, but they are using FALSE ADVERTISING!!!

Read their own website. It tells you that it "retains the stock programming so that the truck can be returned to it's original settings". NOT TRUE! With the numerous ECM revision levels from Cummins/DC, there is very little chance that the program they give you is the stock one that came with you truck!

I will not consider any bully dog products in the future. They cost me $500 from previous ECM work!

Typical aftermarket BS.

Once again I will say that opinions are just like rear ends, WE ALL have them.

I havn't had any of the above problems with the BDDL. It works just like advertised as far as I can tell. There isn't any noticable difference when I set it back to stock.

I have the VAC3. 1 and its a great towing box, never a code and no reports of injector damage due to pressures. It pulls hard in the lower RPM's and cuts back as RPM's climb so if you mash it down and hit passing gear it leaves a little to be desired. It would benefit from a tighter converter.

I have tried a Ramifier and it worked as advertised but suspect pressures may be more than I want to run and now have an Xzilliraider on order.

One thing for sure. . after having an in-cab knob I can't go back.

They do work as advertised (in fact, I'm really impressed by it), but some have had problems when re-loading the "stock" programs and using other performance enhancing devices.

In other words, it's not like unplugging a box and having the ecm work by itself.

I have read that it leaves Bully Dog's stock program on your truck, which may or may not be what your truck came with.

Edge Juice with Attitude or Banks Six-Gun are good choices for the new truck. As always, get gauges and up grade the exhaust to replace the factory muffler with an Aeroturbine, gauges and a good intake, like a Scotty RA5.

**This is a personal opinion**

I'd much rather go with some sort of fooler. A fooler can be unplugged in the event of problems ... ..... a programmer can't.

A buddy of mine with a 7. 3 Ford and Hypertech started having problems and tried to go back to stock programming ... ... ... ... ... ... . he ended up with no programming, had to buy a new ECM

I know I know, this happens only rarely and was probably a communication error due to a bad connection ... ... ..... just makes more sense to me to be able to unplug a fooler and still have the untouched factory code in tact.

I just personally have a problem with reprogramming an ECM.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all of your help, I ended up ordering a edge juice w/att. I was really happy with the drag comp that I had in my 2000, and very happy with their service from Edge, so I thought that I would stick with what I know. Now time to order exhaust and a intake system! Not sure what exhaust, I had the banks monster exhaust before, I like the sound and the fit and finish was nice. But pricey! As far as a intake I was thinking about a volant(sp) because they are blocked off from the under hood heat. Anyway thanks again!
