just picked up a 97 2500 4x4 auto that i'm hoping to add pretty big power to it. i had a 95 2500 4x4 auto with a banks powerpack so i'm looking to have more than my prior truck-what's my best bet?-i've been looking at bd power and ats products-hoping to be in the 350-450hp range. any ideas? i'm going to upgrade my transmission before any upgrades either bd power or suncoast not sure who to go with. any help would be great. 97 dodge 2500 std cab 4x4

99 ford f350 7. 3

2000 ford lightning 450rwhp

Very first thing, do the KDP fix if it hasn't been done. Then I'd do the trans first, with a low stall speed TC & VB upgrade. Then a #10 fuel plate & raise boost to ~35#, set the timing to about 16*. Then tune the plate and AFC real well, add a 3kGSK. Then a set of DDP3 (90) injectors. Then maybe a Piers PDR Super S300 Dodge Cummins turbo. Much more than that, you'll need to pull the head and use stronger head studs and maybe O-ring it.

Doing it this way, you'll get the power and won't lose too much in fuel mileage when you're running easy. I'd be interested on other folks thoughts about this too.

sounds good how about that s300 turbo is that the same turbo bd power lists? and not to sound stupid but what is afc and how do i set the timing to 16*?

thanks john raymond

Hi John, welcome. Yes the PDR S300 is basically a BD Super B, but is on the small side going over ~400hp I think. Might consider 62/12 or 62/14 from Industrial Injection or Hight Tech Turbo. If you keep your eyes open you can score a used cam plate or grind your own (do a search for #10 or #100 plate) and start off with it in the middle.

The AFC (Air/Fuel Control) is the clicker thing that controls fueling rate at low boost. . . ratcheting it toward the front will give you quicker spool but more smoke.

I agree w/Charlie get the Dynomite Diesel injectors, best injector I'm personally aware of for the 12v.

Banks. . . you can bomb it for a heckuva lot less getting your stuff from PDR Diesel, Peak Diesel, Dynomite, Source Automotive, BD Power, etc. etc.
