I backed into the driveway and my drivers side window was partway down. I went to put it up and no go.

I tested the fuse (#9) and it was good. I can't secure the truck with a window down, it's supposed to rain tomorrow and I have to go to work.

After watching a two minute video I pulled the drivers side door panel, then the door speaker and got to the motor for the window. I skinned back the two wires going to the motor and wrapped one side of a piece of lamp chord to each wire. For power, I used the 18v battery from my drill. Up went the window. I put it back together and called it a day. Now, I can keep the rain out and lock the truck.

I suspect the switch module on the door, hope I can order it. Sure a better ending to the day than I was thinking of.

I would double check that it's not a wiring issue. I've had a couple of windows and a speaker die, only to find that it was broken wires in the door hinge area. Only cost is a little time, solder and heat-shrink tubing.

Certainly possible. My right rear door has been the patient in several such wire surgeries. Usually jiggling the harnesses will cause a change in symptoms, no go there this time.

After I put it all back together last night, the Windows were not working and the doors would lock, but not unlock. This morning I inadvertently hit the window button and the Windows worked and the door locks worked. Kind of gun shy now. Certainly raises the possibility you mentioned, but, doesn't exonerate the switch. Thank you for the idea, I will look further.

Make sure your switch is getting power to it. There should be a fuse in the wire bundle under the steering column. It's hard to find but your '04 should have it there. If there is no power there, go back to the ignition switch.

Thank you all for the help. At the moment, I am betting on the switch assembly for two reasons. First, it started working again and second, because, when it fails the door locks will lock, but, not unlock. That is a separate power source and a separate fuse. In truth, none of this exonerates the wore harness and maybe I am engaging in wishful thinking.

I ordered a switch ans while on the site, I noted that there was an option for an upgraded switch with better contacts. I am giving that a try and hoping for a good outcome.

I have fixed the wire harness in the back door three times, so it it comes to that I know what to do. It just seems that they could have used better quality wire the wire used is stiff.

While I am at it, I ordered a headlight switch for the fog lights to work. That seems to be a common problem too.

Just an update.

I do not have the parts yet, however, yesterday, I rolled all four windows down, all went OK, I rolled the two rear ones up that worked. Then I could not roll the front ones up. I rolled the back ones down then everything worked. I could not reproduce the failure.

Kind of makes me feel more like the switch.

I had an intermittent problem with my 06 for a couple years but just with the driver side window. It seemed to always work when I would first get in. But it was hit or miss after that. Then later I found that if I hit the panel down low or open and shut the door it would sometimes work. It turned out to be that the brushes on the actuator motor would stick and the springs couldn't push them back out. There was a lot of carbon dust in them. It would work first thing in the morning because it had all night for the spring to gradually push the brush back out. I didn't figure this out until I had pulled the whole regulator assembly out to replace it. I went ahead and put the new one in anyway because I had a guy coming to buy the truck and that was part of the deal.
