What is the safest power box the get. I have a Bully Dog Power Pup and the EGT's are supper high. Is this box suppose to de-fuel. The box seems like it does not. I have an X-Monitor and EGT is pre turbo.

I am to the point of driving in stock mode because, all the programs seem to have lousy driveability.

I tow a 5er that is 11,000 and a car trailer that is about 6000-8000 depending on what I am dragging home.

Thanks so much

Fred

Thats strange, I have the triple dog down loader from BullyDog and my exhaust gas temps have gone down from stock.

I also replaced my stock muffler with a flow through style as well as a cold air intake all three items together have reduced my exhaust temps about 200 to 250 degrees with the triple dog giving the biggest reduction.

Fred, we need some more info to help you out.

What setting do you have the Power Pup on and when did you buy it? What EGT's are you seeing? What area of the country are you in? These will all impact EGT's in addition to what John has said. Even TDR issue 48 recommended intake and exhaust mods for even small power gains.

Having said that, everything I've read indicates the Power Pup's don't have a significant impact on EGT's so if you're seeing 1,450 degrees pulling a grade for example, that is considered normal for the 600 engines.

Karl,

I live in California near sea level. My exhaust is stock, but I have a fresh air intake. I will post exact EGT's in all modes.

Thanks Fred

From other posts discussing EGT's and from my Juice manual 1450 seems 100 beyond what should be considered a comfortable "normal".

I may be mistaken but.....

Ya... but I've just seen too many threads of guys climbing steep grades with stock 600 motors running 1,450... my dad's '05 being one of them!

I climbed a couple of mountain passes in montana yesterday with a empty trailer weighing about 4k and my temps were around 900-1000 post turbo and with the truck trailer and load weighing 21,800lbs i was saw the max was about 1150 but keep in mind thats Post turbo... . But i am also wondering the same thing what box to go with that wont raise the EGT's anymore than that... .

Also wondering if i should move my EGT probe to pre turbo??? Whats best

I aslo called and talked to Cummins Tech Department and asked them what Temps i should be seeing and they said for a stock truck it differs, but that Cummins has made those motors(600 series) to take the heat and not to WORRY about the temps. . "As long as you haven't done anything to the fuel system on the truck that you will be fine no matter what the temps reach so to just run it" Those are the words directly from 2 Cummins service Techs... . One from the Tech hotline and one from the mouth of a service tech from NORTHWEST CUMMINS in Missoula, MT

So if they say that I'm gonna run it... and they both said if it melts bring it in and they rebuild under warrenty... Oo. Oo. :-laf :D

Taking a trip to LA yesterday pulling a trailer weighing about 5000 LBS in stock mode max EGTwas 1392 and max boost was 32. 8 according to X-Monitor.

I will change modes and check again.

I would like to change exhaust but want no drone and quiet as stock.

Those EGT's looks normal to me but the boost looks a tad higher than normal (probably nothing to worry about though). A Nelson 51" (86131M) will give you free flow and is said by many to be as quiet as stock.

Apparently, some of the Cummins Northwest locations sell them. Do a Google search on them and they can ship one to you and then you can have a local muffler shop install it for you. I'm going to get one soon myself.
