Excuse me I'm really ****** with this truck. I have put 75,000 miles on this thing since April, so as you see I don't stay home alot. Power steering fluid all over underneath, I set up an appointment at my local ripoff Dodge no-it-all store. Asked them to please order a pump and have it in stock, so if a pump is bad they have one since I have no time to play this wait game with them. I had it all set up, and brought my truck in as asked, guess what? No appointment, no pump... . nothing. Well I shot-the-moon and raged all over the place, service amnager came by, calmed me down and put my truck in, I asked him to jump in the truck and feel it since I also felt the engine was rough. " he says yea, this is not right". Left my truck for 2 days, put the pump in, charged me $300, went round and round why it ran rough, told me it's bad fuel, although I had a sample pulled for them and showed no sign of bad fuel. said since I modified the gastank (with the vent kit) my wanrantee was void. SO, I AM LEFT WITH A TRUCK THAT STILL LEAKS FROM A PS PUMP THAT WAS NOT NEEDED AND ROUGH IDLE TO BOOT. Looks to me like it is leaking from the linkage that ties into the steering (steering box). from the top, can someone tell me what to do here, I am on the road leaking about 1/2 pt of fluid a day. Truck running rough I'll deal with I guess. I'm thinking I am just going to get rid of it after this trip. My 4th Dodge, 2nd 3rd generation and I hate it.

I've had the occasional rough idle a time or two, you can try and disconnect your batteries x2 for 20 minutes. Get some Powerservice and pour into the tank and the fuel separator. Fasten batteries back up, drive truck like you stole it for about 10 minutes. Rough idle should be cleared, if not it could be something serious.

Take a deep breath, re-***** you're power steering leak, it could be something simple.

with the rough idle, I tried 2 cans of seafoam and regularly use mm oil and lucas additives. I'll try the battery disconnect, didn't think that would have anything to do with it. No codes BTW, as far as the ps leak, It looks as if it's leaking from the steering box, i will have a little time this weekend so I'm going to climb under there and try and clean things up a little and check it. Looks like theres some star bolts I will need a special socket for, I'm thinking maybe the whole thing loosend up. why didn't the half-assed so called factory trained lame brain POS dealer mechanic notice the leak? Guess I'm asking to much for them to actually FIX something.

machinemover just had that same problem with gear box took to dealer thinking they would not warranty because of my after market lift /kelderman air ride/ and bigger tires 37s tech took a look at and said was a manufacter defect in the pump leaking from top plate cover and are going to fix it under warranty for me i would take yours to a differnt shop and see what they have to say good luck john c

My truck is leaking p/s fluid out of the resivoir cap. Cleaned it all off, next day still leaks all over.

My 03 was leaking out the reservoir cap when I first had the truck. Dealership took some oil out and told me to run it with the oil level a bit low. That was almost 3 years and 160,000 Kms ago and so far no problems.

my steering box started leaking at 1500 miles. It was replaced and no problems since 12000 miles now. So hope this is not a new trend.

Machinemover -

There were some threads a while back about some sort of O ring on the resevoir side of the PS pump. They were leaking and there is a fairly easy replacement procedure for it.

Might do a search and see if that is the culprit.

BTW, mine leaks just a little and I have a feeling it is that O ring. Not enough to bother me.

Might be worth a look

Best -

My 05 was leaking right where the input shaft from the steering wheel entered the steering box. Put it in the shop, they steam washed the engine bay and put a flourecent dye additive in the power steering resevoir. Topped off the fluid and told me to come back next monday so they can see where its leaking from. Note this was with 1100 miles on the truck. I got home from the dealer and told them to have the box tomorrow morning. Guy was like well your appointment is next monday, I said well if I wait that long truck wont have any power steering fluid left. Remaned box was replaced the next morning and I was out the door by 10am.

As for the rough Idle I get that often after sitting for long periods in stop and go traffic. I got away from the MMO PS mix due to the new fuel being thinner and supposedly having additives in it to make the lubricity to go up. Here lately its a half quart of PS in each tank. Getting ready for my second fuel filter change and im at 13k miles

I had the PS leak at about 10k on my 04. 5. Dealer thought it was the pump, wouldn't listen to me, and replaced it to no avail. When I took it back the 2nd time, they replaced the steering box with not complaint. 25k later and no more spots on the drive. I would have thought this was a QA problem that would have been solved by now. I guess not.
