Humvee/Cummnis

holy overpriced diesel?

If you couldn't have a Cummins which one would you want, powerstroke or a duramax? just wondering which is the better engine in your opinion.

I'm still holdin' out for the Hemi Neon!:D  Oo.

edit: In keeping with the spirit and intent of this thread

I'd go for the Ford. ;)

I guess if I had to choose, I'd take the PSD. A buddy of mine has a '99 PSD and he hasn't had any problems yet and he just turned 70k. Not saying much when my CTD just rolled 195k with no problems yet!#ad

I recently went with my brother in law and test drove both trucks, easily I would choose the Powerstroke over the Duramax. After he drove them he ended up buying my 2001 CTD and I bought a new 2002 ETH.

This is a no-brainer: Give me the PSD. I know the truck is pretty darn stout, and the motor has been thru its teething problems. The Izusu/GM motor is unproven, and the truck is, in my opinion, very light-duty. Not sure why, since they wanted Izusu partnership, they didnt just stick in a nice, proven I-6 all-Izusu motor and leave the GM component out of it all.

I would take the Ford/Navistar, (I refuse to use marketing gimmicks) in a heartbeat. Never have liked G. M. Ford builds top notch trucks. The neighbor kids' dad drops him off everyday in his G. M. C. /Isuzu, just realized today that it's a diesel. My wife says she hears my '93 two blocks away!- the way it's supposed to be. Rich

:{ NO CUMMINS :{

I would go buy a Pacer and a vega

I refuse to type either of those 2 words ... ..... you know the p word or the d word :p

PSD

I ha**-- don't much care for GM. I find 99% of their stuff gimmicky and cheap (can you say Avalanche-or whatever they call that erector set gone bad thing). The Corvettes make decent racecars, but that's about it.

so I'd be back in a Ford in a flash. But I really dislike the looks of the "new" super duties. GAWD I'm fussy. :p

I'm not sold on either one, probably get the hemi gasser. I think the Duramax is too expensive and the value will drop like an anchor in a couple years. Also I question their long term reliability. If I had to choose a diesel guess I'd go with a Ford.

Like most of you, I'm not a huge fan of either truck company. But I would choose an F-550 crew cab/chassis 4x4 with the PSD and 6 speed. I would be buying this combo mainly for the driveline-a real Dana 60 front axle, locking hubs, Dana 135-C (have you ever looked at the size of that rear end... it has a 13 1/2 inch ring gear!:--) ), super HD transfer case, etc. The PSD is really the only weak link. :D :D .

I came from the Ford world before I got Godzilla. Had a 1987 F250 w/6. 9L diesel. Would go with the Super Duty PowerStroke no question.

Where I grew up in Smog Sangeles (L. A. ), the vast, vast majority of Chevy vehicles are driven by one particular group of people - the gang bangers and wanna be gang bangers. PUKE!!!! To this day, I passionately dislike any and all GM/Chevy products because of that (except Corvettes).

As a friend of mine once said, I'd rather push my Dodge/Ford, uphill, in the rain and snow, both ways..... than drive a Chevy:-laf

Tom

I agree , I passionately hate Chevy’s also because some of the arrogant A-holes that go with them " Chevy rules ", "heart beat of America "ya ya you bet . Chevy's are the biggest pieces of underbuilt overpriced piles of crap on the road , I would take a Ford in a heartbeat they IMO have a smart looking truck that also is built tough ..... just my 3. 5cents worth

Oo. Oo. :D Oo. Oo.

I have put 170,000 miles on my 99 P. S. D work truck. It is an f350 4x4 that weighs 13,500 lbs every day ,tows a backhoe occasionally and sees alot of 4WD work. With the exception of a glow plug relay and the replacement/upgrade of a defective clutch the truck has performed flawlessly. If I couldn't have my CTD I'd buy a P. S. D in a heartbeat.

Hmm

I bought a GMC/Isuzu. Sold my Dodge after 73,000 great miles, loved that truck. Just wanted something else. I've got 6,300 miles on the new truck, and I love this truck too. I'm still stock, but I ran a 16. 3 bone stock with 1800 miles on it, Add a Juice box from Edge and I should be in the high 14s. Great off road ride which is nice when running around the farm. I'm gonna trade in a few years anyway and the GMC/Isusu/Allison have great resale value, just check KBB.com.
