Torque: DMax vs Cummins HO

Ham or Bacon ???

This is a crazy question, but here goes.....

I was helping my cousin replace the fuel pump on his powerstroke. The pump has plunger, that rides on the camshaft, to run the mechanical fuel pump. He pulled the pump out, and the plunger stayed in the engine, and when he went to grab it, it fell into the engine. OH ****!!!!!!!!

He turned the engine over manually at the flywheel, and we heard it fall into the oil pan. To get the oil pan off looks like a major project as well, but its hard for him to sleep well with that laying in the pan.

Any suggestions? I would hate for that plunger to make contact with any moving parts in there... ... ... ... .

I would go to Ford diesel.com and ask your question on the site that fits your cousins model year ford. It is free to register and they are a knowledgeable group and will help you with this question. Good luck

He is going to post in there. I just thought I would try here also. Figured this might be a good source of information also.

Thanks

A good strong magnet on the outside of the pan should be able to slide it toward the drain plug, if it will come to the drainplug you should be able to manipulate it with small magnets or mechanics tweezers. I have never seen the inside of a PSD oil pan so I do not know if it is baffled much, and I have never seen the plunger you are after. If the plunger is too big or the pan is tighly baffled removing the pan may be your only option. Tear up an old speaker and give it a shot. Hope this helps.
