BOY HAVE I FOUND A GREAT PRODUCT!!!

Price is more than HALF the competition. . and it works the way we would want it to... .

Give a call to Practical Solutions.
(406) 727-5144

This thing works... . and is WELL MADE!!!!

They also offer a simpler version for even less money... But the "Pro" version has all sealed FACTORY connectors... Wire Loom Wrap... and a component box the size of a wooden match box!!!!

ANYONE running additional fuel... i. e Injectors. . VA... or one of the old TST or Bluechip Boxes. . HAVE GOT TO GET ONE!!!!!

It even comes with an elbow.

Those who have DD Boost Modules... should TRY ONE!!!!!! YOUR GOING TO GET A BIG SUPRISE!!!!!

Larry

OK, you got my interest! Why will DD boost module owners be suprised. Don't leave us hanging.

It's ALL in the electrons my friends.....

The problem: Boost gets to @21 PSI... The ECM sees this and cuts back fuel...
We all know this. .

There are 3 current "Solutions" to this problem...

After testing a stock MAP sensor... we find that the 20-21 PSI Gives @2. 0 Volts.

We also know that the ECM changes fueling as the boost changes. . I. E. At an idle you have NO BOOST therefore the fueling "Curve" is LOW.
This helps to minimize SMOKE and lower EGT's

We also know that just before the ECM starts cutting back fuel it is at "Max Fuel" for that amount of boost. (I. E more fuel at that time will create more boost and that will push the ECM to cut back... . )

First Possibility. . We COULD give the ECM a CONSTANT 2. 0 Volts... ( This has been tried with a few $10. 00 Modules)

This will show 2. 0 volts from idle to redline... No cutback... .
HOWEVER. . At an idle the ECM will see 20 PSI boost. AND REGISTER A PROBLEM CODE!!!!

Next possibility... We could take all the Boost signals... divide them by 2 or 3 (Step Down) and send that new voltage to the ECM... . That way You'd practically NEVER hit the 2. 0 Volts that causes the ECM to cutback. . !!!

Problem... The "Fueling Maps" stored in the ECM go right out the window... .
At ANY boost level, the ECM has been programmed to give a SPECIFIC AMOUNT OFF FUEL.
If the ECM ONLY SEES 5 PSI boost... it's only going to give the level of fuel for that amount of boost.

If the boost signal has been divided by 2 or 3... the engine is actually at more like 10-15 PSI BOOST ... .
Remember boost ALONE gives no more power...

Where do we get the extra fuel????
INJECTORS... "LOOSE" Injectors that FLOW MORE. .

Did anyone Wonder why that STOCK ETH's performance dropped like a rock after "The Other" boost module was used?????

HMMMMMMMMMM... ...

The last and I believe the BEST solution...
Let the boost level readings go where they want @ or below that 20-21 PSI level...

Thats what the Cummins guys designed the system to do...
But how do we PREVENT the ECM from cutting back fuel AFTER 20-21 PSI... ???

Since we agree that the boost signals are best left alone below that "Magic" 2. 0 Volts to keep the stored fueling maps "Valid"

We need to modify ALL voltages over 2. 0 in real time!!!!

Simple... Effective... And IT WORKS... . BOY DOES IT WORK!!!!!

I'm Not at Liberty to Disclose the Circuit that is being employed... . I frankly don't know...

You will be HAPPY. . HAPPY... #ad

The Practical Solutions Kit also comes with a "Calibrated" boost elbow...
It is bench flowed to a specific pressure level.
This prevents the Dreaded "Overboost" issue and acts as the "Safety Valve" for the setup.

I have No Monetary interest in this company!
Nor do I have an axe to grind with any other's product.

As I said in the beginning, there are differant solutions to the same problem. . This one has My "Stamp Of Approval". . BIG TIME!!!!

Larry

Not to sound like a broken record but TST has been doing exactly this (letting the ECM see actual boost until hitting 20psi - and then only letting it see 20psi and handling the fueling beyond that point) ever since the first PM. It also doesn't increase fueling at all until boost is over 2 psi which avoids smoking (I don't see ANY smoke with my original PM). They were one of the first people out with a box and I still think it's one of the most researched products out there - JMHO!!

I have no idea about TST...
To be honest . . I don't even know what products they offer. .

The DD module has been reported to DECREASE HP on a non modified truck...
If this is true, then it must be modifying the signals below 2 volts... .

If it were a true passthrough than there would be no performance change... at least no DOWNWARD change!!

Just Bench Test a module and find out.

If you hook a variable power supply to the DD module. . you should see the voltages on either end to be EXACTLY (W/N 5%) the same... up to 2. 0 volts...

Let's start an INDEPENDANT group to discover the truth of the matter... .

If it is "Transparent" throughout the voltages... then the Practical Solution still wins out on Size and Price HANDS DOWN!!

Larry

Larry, What are we talking in $$$? What is the competitions price. I'm stock and would think this Module & elbow might give me a little more on the top end hauling the 5th without going the route of injectors and/or boxes.

This product sounds interesting, but does anybody know for sure how the DD module works? It would seem strange that the DD would change the values under 20psi if they didn't need to. As good as their injectors are, I would have thought that their boost module would be equally as good. I'm sure somebody has asked DD about this.

PILE ON!!!!!!

I'm not selling... . Nor do I have any interest in the success or failure of the manufacturer.....

My "Nest" Isn't being padded... .

I just Found a product I Like and endorse...

The DD Module is a BIG SELLER... and has a BIG PRICE TAG to boot... .

I was about to buy one used for the same price as a NEW Practical Solutions module...

I WAS Sold on the DD... .

Right up to the time that I saw a post that said that the performance of a STOCK ETH went DOWN after the DD install... .

THAT got the gears working.....
Ask yourself this SIMPLE question...

What caused the performance to DROP???

IF the module was TRANSPARENT to the ECM. . then the performance BELOW 2. 0V should have been EXACTLY THE SAME!!!

IF the loss was due to the ECM cutting back fuel. . then the Module SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK!!!!

NOW that's a Double Edged Sword If I Ever Saw One!!!

Anyone who is going to buy a Boost Module Will use their own Common Sense to make a brand choice!!!

To Sum this whole issue up... . I Felt that I would have been Negligent if I hadn't posted this find.....
With the small amount of electronic knowledge I have... I "Knew" what I wanted the circuit to do... . but couldn't/wouldn't build one... .

When I found one already made to the specs that I thought would work the best... .
WILD HORSES COULDN'T KEEP ME FROM BUYING ONE!!!

BTW... I also have a NEW UNUSED KeithW Module... if any one wants it... ... YES... KEITH DID DELIVER... . AND ON TIME!!!

He Delivered EXACTLY WHAT HE OFFERED.
I never put it on because I figured out how it worked. . and didn't Agree with the Implementation.
Simple!!!

If we want to bring HVAC into this discussion. . (Kicking and screaming I'm Sure. . #ad
)

As I said..... If We as the TDR have RULES. . They MUST apply to everyone... otherwise they apply to No One!!!

If it is decided that "Vendors" can tout their wares against other on this board. . SO BE IT... .
Mark Chapple, Ted Jannety, Blue Chip Diesel, Dr. Performance..... Run WILD!!!!

But I don't think that's where we want the board to go... Agreed????

If Not ... At least we Agree to Disagree. . and salute the decision with a NICE COLD ONE!!!! My TREAT!!!!!

(OH... S@#$... . I forgot how many members we have... . "Honey..... the Credit Card Is Going to get a WORKOUT. . "!!!!)

Larry,
Hope you don't think I was jumping on you. I just didn't know if the DD operation had been verifed. I had always assumed that the DD worked like the module you described, and I guess I was wrong. I like the idea of the boost module leaving the signal alone until 20-21psi. Now I will need to rethink my bombing plans. Thanks for your research and input!

Has anyone else called DD yet? They told me that their boost module leaves the signal alone until 21psi, then limits the signal after that. Anyone?

Does this solution apply to us 2001 AUTO (ETC) owners who have the "tamper-proof" factory boost line and can't go with a simple elbow?

IF not, is Pratical Solutions going to come up with one for this application?

scooby , tst has a kit for '01 autos , but its pricey , 50 bucks, for what you get , a spring and a bracket . the spring hooks onto the wastegate arm to fight it opening untill there is enough boost to overcome the spring tension .

Just as a follow up!!!

I was informed by Practical Solutions that tests on a Totally Stock truck are now complete.

Just as I hoped ... there was absolutely NO DIFFERANCE IN PERFORMANCE with the kit and without!!!

What does this confirm???
well it confirms that the module / Elbow are COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT to the ECM!!!

Good news indeed!

Some form of fueling enhancement will be needed to combine with the boost to create more HP!!!!
THE IMPORTANT THING IS THE FUELING MAPS INSIDE THE ECM ARE STILL VALID AND USED!!!!

NOW CONNECT THAT BOX (those without integrated boost modules that is. )... . ORDER THOSE INJECTORS... RAM HARD!!!!

Lov'in LIFE!!! BOMB STYLE!!!!!

Larry

Does anyone know if practical solutions can be contacted by email, or if they have a website? Anyone else tried this new boost module yet? Sounds great so far.
