Pre-Engine Bomb - Auto Trans Mods???

Guys - n - Gals,



Not looking to start a who's parts are better than who's war but, here goes.



I'm at the point where I'm thinking of (finally after two years of ownership and 108k on the clock) adding some power. Realizing I have to do something w/the trans first vs. dumping gobs of power, fry trans then do trans right, I'd like to be proactive - and not waste $$$.



So, what can I do to the trans that will help it last and not put me in the poor house? Can I get away with just some VB work or do I need a TC too??? I don't haul anything (realizing this next comment is a dangerous one) I don't "plan" on adding too much power - just a bit more than the present stock or as much (he, he) the marginally modified trans can withstand.

I would suggest doing a search. You'll find enough information to keep you reading for days.



After you read enough to make your head dizzy:0, I would call each transmission vendor and talk with them to see what they recommend for you.



Then just make the best decision you can with what information you gather.

Dang Joe, with 108K on the clock adding a VB is kinda dangerous. The higher pressures of a performance VB in a transmission that is worn could work, but it also could lead to more internal leakage and help the transmission to die. The first thing I would do is some pressure checks to baseline the leakage you have now, trying to find out what kind of shape the transmission is in, but that is me being cheap. The best way would be to freshen up that transmission and put a VB in it then.

For once I agree with LSMITH . With that much mileage you should have the internals gone over. Some of the trans rebuilders sell excellent kits for this. Then you should consider valve body and TC. Any way you look at it it won't be cheap.
