Post, reason being I am interested in the temp of the turbo, if the air I measure is at a safe temp after it has passed through it then the turbo is at a safe temp.

As far as shutdown temp I watch the pre-turbo temp when I'm driving and when it's @ 300 or below I note the time it takes to get to my destination and if it has been three minutes or more I feel comfortable with shutting down.

I think the turbo has to cool within this time frame.

Does this sound right to you?

Of course if I'm loaded I let it idle longer.

Pre, for accuracy and response time.

As far as the heat of the turbo, I'd rather know about the heat of the engine. The turbo is not that expensive compared to a short block.

Pre. The 03/04 truck use a HY35 w/9cm2 turbine housing. That tiny turbine housing helps keep the hot EGT upstream of the turbo... which is why we see such a large discrepancy in EGT from Pre to Post in these trucks.

Definitely want to see the worst case scenario.

Post, for monitoring shutdown. But I plan to add a pre-thermocouple later for completeness.

Post temp should not exceed around 900 F sustained.

Everybody that is running pre, has anyone ever heard of one breaking off and shreading the turbo? That is why i went post on my last truck.

Never heard of that happening. There was a post awhile back saying that they are pre turbo on airplanes.
