Hello everyone!

Here are my "official" baseline performance numbers before I install the "Power Wagon" injectors:

1000-2000 rpm: 7. 4 sec.

1500-2500 rpm: 8. 0 sec.

1000-2500 rpm: 11. 9 sec.

20-50 mph acceleration: 11. 0 sec

Conditions were ideal: 150 feet above sea level, 68-70 F, about 50% RH. The above figures are for 4th gear acceleration. The 20-50 mph test was specified by Dodge for checking low power complaints on the 1st gen. According to the TSB a 2WD should accomplish the test in 13 seconds a 4WD in 14 seconds. 1000 rpm is about 22 mph, 1500 is 33 mph, 2000 is 44 mph and 2500 is 55 mph. Looking forward to the performance increase.

'Power Wagon' injectors to be installed!

If you have adjusted your boost compensator (AFC in cummins speak) or turned up your fuel, you will want to turn it back to stock or below when you put the injectors in. Keeps the smoke down #ad

I'm interested to see the increase in power. The guys at the shops here say that there aren't any "big" injectors for my year of truck! From all the info here I call B. S. on these guys. I am still scheduling to go in for a compression test and injector inspection soon. If any are bad I was thinking of getting the uprated version, if the cost isn't much more. Good luck!! #ad

HI PW,

Yeah I have my AFC rate and full load fuel at max so I will definitely have to turn them back. The off idle setting on the AFC is at stock. I plan on starting up with them set as is and backing off until smoke is right. Also I am going to check timing pin accuracy with the positive stop method you told me about. I planned on making a tool to do the job (I bought a HD thread insert with M24X1. 5 threads on the outside, the same as the injector hold down nut, and M18X1. 5 threads on the inside. Using M18X1. 5 all thread rod, the plan was to machine it as necessary to make an injector shape with a little longer small diameter nozzle shape to hit the piston. It could be adjustable by screwing it in or out of the insert as needed to properly hit the piston. ) but some of the material has not arrived and I am getting anxious so I plan on using the service manual method of exhaust valve contact (all injectors removed!) to check timing pin accuarcy.

Hey Lil' Dog,

There should be a way to get bigger injectors for your truck. Using the same strategy as PW you can find a higher HP CPL for '89 and use those injectors. Stock injectors for a higher HP engine should not cost any more. I paid $60/per injector for mine. Old School mentioned JRE sells custom built units for the older Cummins.

Well, they aren't precisely for your truck, but they ARE for a cummins B engine, but have larger holes than stock injectors. Had a nice fellow come by the shop a few weeks ago, with a '93 one ton dually and a massive camper on the back, said he needed a bit more power, so we gave him the treatment. He came back by for an unrelated problem a couple weeks later with his brother. His brother bought a chip for his PSD because he could barely keep up, where before outrunning him used to be a simple matter. Officially, we call it a 180HP upgrade, but the way the ford guy growled "There's got to be a @#$%^ of a lot more than 180HP, 'cause I gotta keep my foot buried just to keep up!" I just smiled and reminded him that Cummins horses are much stronger than International horses.

PW,
Thats along the lines I'm looking for. I understood from the stuff Big Don had to do when his head cracked that there is an adaptor for the smaller injector bodies into this version of head.
With the "bigger" injectors comes better performance and less pump wear is what I was told, and it makes sense. However I'm at the point where if the engine is tired, low compression, this move may not be worth it.
I will be talking to you or Piers when the time comes to uprate this little beast. My primary concern for more power still lyes on the intercooler problem, like I don't have one. All the fuel in the world isn't gonna help me if I can't boost it.

Jason,
Perhaps give Rick a call at Valley Fuel Injection in Abbotsford also. 1-888-841-8884. They are into performance increases also, and a $1 doesn't cost $1. 50
