Guys

Im a little worried about what I found while servicing my rear diff last night,

When i removed the cover I was inspecting the limited slip unit and i found 4 spots on the gear housing where the edge of the spider gears have worn through the housing. 2 spots on each side.

You can see that the material has been getting hot where it is wearing. it has worn two slots in each side of the housing approx. 1" x 1/2"

Has anyone else heard of this or came across somehting like this?

Any suggestions? Thanks

Dallas

there has been talk over on the dtr about that. if i remember right, it was how the housing was machined. the pinion gears in the LSD push away from the side gear [towards the middle of the case] when loaded, so there is no real load against the case outsides when going forward. i think they get loaded outwards when backing up though. .

found thread on dtr

Thanks, at least I know Im not the only one this has happened to, I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong. Im still not sure what I should do with it, Im not too excited about replacing it, I wonder if warranty would cover it? I could just run it and see what happens.

Anyone else have any incite?

The last thread I saw with that type of wear the carrier bearings were gone. If you have a warranty get it in there NOW and tell them the rear end is gone. There is no way that wear should be there if the diff is good. :(

Mine looked like that since day one... it is a machined surface... think about it, if the gears actually wore the side of the case, wouldn't you expect a PILE of metal shavings on the magnet and floating around the case???

Normal, nothing wrong.
