Premium Blue 2000 at 9000 miles?

Any harm in switching over to the semi-synthetic at 9K. I am heading up to Western PA for a while and the low temps where I am going will probably be below zero and I will not be always be able to plug the truck in.

How about if I run it for the next 3K and the switch back to the Premium Blue until around 20K. The engine has about 1,000 miles in front of a 7,000 lb load.

You don't need to sweat the 1000 mile difference on the recommended wait until 10000 until using synthetics. That recommendation is to make sure that you have gotten a good break-in. You are close enough, particularly since you have 1000 miles on it towing. Loading the motor during the breakin 10000 is more important than the oil issue.

I use my truck as an rv tow vehicle almost exclusively. So when I had 7500 miles on it and it was due for a change, I put synthetics in it at that time. I know it is broke in good as my milage figures are better than the average here, my oil control is perfect as it doesn't use a drop between changes, even working it hard towing, and it is very strong powerwise.

Bottom line, I wouldnt worry about it you are close enough, you could even go full synthetic if you wanted.

The Rep. at a Cummins open house told me that many fleets use the Premium Blue 2000 from the start. He said there was nothing to be gained by waiting.
