another puter question

Global Warming???

Dear follow TDR members: If you work overtime or know some that does please read the post I got from my union about what President Bush (the guy I voted for) wants to do with overtime.

Strong-armed by President Bush, members of the U. S. Senate last

week backed off a filibuster against this year's government

spending bill they were holding up because it failed to block

the Bush overtime pay take-away. Bush had threatened to veto the

bill if it included an overtime pay protection guarantee for

America's workers, even though both houses of Congress voted to

block the overtime pay cuts in earlier votes. The Bush Labor

Department is expected to announce an implementation date for

the overtime pay take-away before March 1.

We CAN win protection for overtime pay and good jobs if your

voice is amplified by the voices of millions of other Americans.

So today we're asking you to bring more people into the fight to

protect overtime pay. We're ramping up the Petition to Save

Overtime Pay with a new push to collect signatures and ask new

people to join this fight. Please click on the link below to

sign the petition if you have not yet signed it.

http://www.saveovertimepay.org/

One fantastic way to find new people to speak out for overtime

pay is to ask them personally, face-to-face. Please take one

minute right now to click on the link below and download a

printable petition form to circulate in your workplace or

community.

http://www.unionvoice.org/ct/y71dN841Z1br/

So far, more than 300,000 Americans have signed the petition

online or through a downloadable petition form. We're tracking

the number of petition signers by state and we're setting

state-specific goals to triple the number of signers we have

right now. So we're asking you to triple your efforts, too.

Click below for the current number of signers in each state and

your state's goal.

Imagine if everybody in this network recruited 30 new petition

signers. Tens of millions of Americans would be a part of this

fight-and we'd win.

Here are some ideas to get out the word:

+ Download the petition form and collect signatures in your

workplace, in your community or wherever people gather. Return

completed forms to us.

+ Forward this e-mail to everybody in your e-mail address book.

+ Include a link to the Save Overtime Pay website at

http://www.saveovertimepay.org/ in all of your e-mails.

Please do your part to build this campaign and make a real

difference. Together, we can protect overtime pay and good jobs

from President Bush's assault. Millions of Americans may lose

overtime pay and protections.

We'll send you updates on the progress of the petition campaign

and alerts about any new developments.

Thanks for all you do. Let's really get the word out!

Be glad you're union. I am... Bush had 37% of union member's votes. Probably more than enough to have got him the election. Along with the list of other blunders that have even pisst off some Republicans, he's now cutting off the hand that fed him.

Yes, if Bush has this go through and becomes law... ... GUARANTEED I will never vote Republican again. Clinton got the ball rolling with NAFTA and screwed a lot of people, but when the money is coming out of my pocket and many others too..... he will go down the tubes... ... and fast.

Don

i would be really ****** off if this happen. I think we'd see a huge drop in people working overtime. . . . Which would further make our economy go down the toilet even more...

Nick

I've voted Republican for 20+ years, but this is one of a number of areas where the Bush administration is stepping on its collective dork! :(

Rusty

It's funny (odd) but I posted this to another web site and it's 100% against here and about 75/25 against on the other site. I guess Dodge Diesel owners are more informed that some early Bronco owners. All I can say is that I'm preplexed as to who to vote for. I've always voted republican but I don't see any difference in either party now.

Maybe, if people stop working overtime employers will need to hire more people and unemployment will go down. I don't want to take any side on this issue, but I don't think he just want to save employers couple bucks. Like everything with him, he is on something.

Oh just think , when all the illegals from Mexico get there free to stay in America card they will work for straight time and never complain . I don't know if I am going to vote for Bush this time either . I think you are right Bart , don't look like there is much difference these days in the two party's.

Thats what y'all don't understand. The companies wont have to hire more they will just work you 7 days a week and not have to pay you overtime. Don't have to hire anyone else and pay them hourly and benefits etc. when they have your but there for all straight time.

Agree with you 100 %.

This will probably help more people than it hurts. It increases the the overtime exemption from $8,000. 00 per year to $22,100. 00 per year. In other words any one who earns less than $22,100. 00 per year is guaranteed overtime pay.

For example, think of all the "assistant managers" and "shift managers" at retail and fast food that make 14K per year on salary with no overtime. Now the would have to be paid overtime or have their base salary increased to $22,100. 00.

The new rules do not apply to blue collar workers.

Now that I think about what this will do to the price of a hamburger, maybe it is a bad idea.

As a Union member, anything I get from them is slanted left wing. I have no idea why, becuase supporting the Democrats for the last 50 years has not gained us (the union member) one thing.

I don't want to hear:

Bush is stealing our over time

Bush is starving school children

Bush is killing senior citizens

Bush is sending our jobs to to China etc,e tc etc.

If there is an issue, then lets hear it. Post the short version of the bill, longer than "Bush is stealing something" please.

:)

Bart, that is what you get for voting for him. We now have a Republican in the White House and both the Senate and the House of Representatives are controlled by the Republicans. I don't want to hear any "spin" (lies) about how everything that has happened since he "took" office is somehow Clinton's fault. That just don't play here anymore. Those minded people need to open their eyes or take a reality pill, everything for the last 3 1/2 years has happened on the Republican's watch!!

He already lost my vote when he gave all of the illegal's a free ride to stay in the US. This latest blunder only seals my decision to vote for the other side come the election. ( God help me! )

I could never in good conscience vote for the Socialist Party (the DNC). Something here stinks. When the AFL/CIO tells you to vote for/against somebody, it's not your welfare they're looking out for. It's theirs! They long ago sold their soul.

This issue bears more investigating. Most likely it's just another political ploy designed to throw mud in the GOP's eye.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Bush would do something that is so blatantly and absurdly wrong. He's got to know that if this is true, it will cost him votes.

No, I gotta think it's another political ploy by the Socialists.

No offense, but that is not excatly what he proposed, however, the left likes you to think that.

NETim"This issue bears more investigating. "

YEP!! As does most everyhting reported.

While I have disagreed with many things Bush has done, the alternative is much, much worse.

The last 4 years he has been picking up the pieces that Clinton left him. Its pretty amazing that he got things turned around as well as he did, especially with Daschle stealing the Senate from the Republicans in the middle of it all.

Now, all I want is to abolish the IRS, go with a flat tax, throw the UN out, get our import/ export laws more even, drop all the useless gun laws, and a couple other minor things...

;)

From thatarticle:

"The change means an additional 1. 3 million lower-income workers who now don't get overtime would be eligible.

The government estimates that roughly 640,000 white-collar workers would lose overtime pay under those job duty changes"

You would think the Union would want to help the larger group of LOWER PAID workers, eh?
