I was wondering... . is it possible/advisable to adjust the operating pressure of a stock A518 so that there is a bit firmer connection? I assume this will result in a more noticable drop in RPM on shifts right? Will i see a higher operating temp? I assume this would be done when the pan gasket is off and doing regular maintainence. Will I end up with a harsh engagement?

Bushwakr,

I don't know enough about this to be much help but since no one else has come forward, here is what I know.

Yes, the pressure can be increased. I had this done to mine on the last rebuild and it helped. I don't know enough to tell you what to do but someone good at rebuilding transmission's would know. There is a port in the valve body that can be drilled out for increased flow and pressure and extra clutch discs can be installed.

Since I installed the PW injectors, my transmission is a bit slow in shifting from first into second. Seems like the engine governer kicks in before the transmission wants to shift. I talked to my rebuilder today(he is an old school buddy) and asked if this could be fixed. He said he can make some adjustments to the valve body and cure this problem. Looks like it is time for a service job!

thanks paccool,
strangly enough I too seem to have that hesitation before the jump up to 2nd gear, with the same impression that the governor starts to kick in before the shift. I have heard that there is an adjustment that can be made inside the transmission with an allen key or torx bit to improve operating pressure. I'm going to do the unexpected and see if there is anything in the service manual about this.
I wonder if this will help improve performance and assist in extending trans. life till I can get out to Bill K's for the proper VB and TC change.
thankyou for taking the time to respond!!!

I had my transmission shop put a shift kit into my 518. It increased the fimness of the shifts. I think it was a Trans-Go, but the shop is out of business so I can't verify.
