I've done a brief search and haven't uncovered much on the topic... With some sort of higher-than-stock flow injectors (whole new injectors or new tips etc. ) would this place the pressure-related components on the common rail system under less stress? Would a pressure box then pose less threat to new injectors vs. the stock diameter(s) (and effective flow area)? My thought was that for a given drive pressure capacity, a larger orifice would result in a higher flow rate (due to decreased Cv at the injector) and an overall reduced line pressure. Thoughts?

the injector in a CR system also functions as a valve. every time you open, close, and flow through a valve under pressure you wear it out a little. the higher the pressure & more contaminates increase the wear factor & increase the possibility of catastrophic failure.

theoretically the more restriction on the tips, the less wear & tear on the valving mechanism. the smaller restriction decreases the pressure equalization time, lowering the wear across the valve assembly... . theoretically.

I think SKneeland hits it on the head pretty good. It has been my observation that a pressure box with injectors definately wakes the truck up compared to injectors and duration. But you really don't run lower pressures just because you have larger holes in the injectors. The ECM calls for a given pressure and gets it as long as the cp3 can keep up and everything else is healthy.

So no, I don't think aftermarket injector nozzels add to the reliability of the injector. They do however add to the reliability of your smile!! :D

Perhaps nozzels machined from higher quality alloys hold up better than stock but Bosch's injector bodies are still the same regardless off nozzels, oh yeah and they are pretty much junk imo.
