I am the proud owner of a 1997 Ram 2500 4x4. I special ordered it at the beginning of July 1996 and received it at the end of August 1996. After receiving my truck I noticed the clutch engaged and disengaged at the highest point of the clutch pedal travel. I took it into the dealer at 1,800 miles and they told me the pressure plate was deffective. After they replaced it and the clutch, it seemed to improve the position of the engagement/disengagement a little but not by much. Just recently, 4 weeks ago, at just over 46,000 miles the pressure plate went bad again. Mind you the only two things I have pulled with my truck are a jetski and a trailer with car both weighing under 4,000 lbs. I recently bought a centerforce dual friction clutch/pressure plate kit and had a certified Chrysler repair technician replace it for me. It runs great and finally for the first time since I have owned the truck the disengagement/engagement of the clutch is just before the midway position of the clutch pedal travel from the floor.

My only question at this point is has anyone had the same problem I've had with the stock clutch going out prematurely twice and if so did you have any luck getting Chrysler to reimburse you for the repair work if it was out of the 12 month warranty? So far I have not.

P. S. I forgot to mention that the pressure plate was truly deffective because it had an area on it 1" in diameter that was bluish in color. This indicated high heat at this point, since it was the only point of contact on the clutch disk hence the fly wheel. Mind you the clutch disk showed no signs of wear. By the way the fly wheel had to be replaced as well. This was about a $2000. 00 job with parts and labor for both the fly wheel and clutch assembly.

One word --warranty--
Now way in h--- could you get only one spot of blue(burnt) on the flywheel & pressure plate & not be able to disengage the clutch if something not been installed incorrectly... ... ... . GO back and demand to talk to talk--or call D/C and b---h.

If someone put the clutch disc in backward (and it's not that hard to do) it can make the clutch do some real screwy things.
