Hey guys, I have a buddy who drove up today in his F... D truck stating that he ran gasoline through his 2000 24v yesterday. Bummer! He was told some outrageous prices for a new pump and lift pump, just wondering if any of you know a good place to start looking and about how much he's going to have to shell out.

Thanks, Steve.

(BTW, the truck ran fine until he tried to restart after a short stop at the store. He then realized what he did) OUCH!

Ouch

That hurts. One of the many reasons I am afraid to let my GF drive my truck. She has never filled a vehicle up on anything but unleaded.

It seems I heard around 1000 smacks for the pump but I have never had to purchase one( and hope I don't ). I'm sorry to hear about that. :( The only thing worse than buying a new pump is being without the Cummins

Dodge will want 2400 for just the injection pump, I think Piers has them for around 1300. Lift pumps are about 140 from cummins. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

Is he sure the pump is toast? Has he tried flushing the lines, changing the fuel filter and draining the tank yet? Don't see why the VP44 would necessarily have failed in that relatively short time. Worth a try before spending the $$$'s.

Whoa Now!!!

You don't need to replace anything. Just drain and clean the tank, then purge the lines. Relace the fuel filter. Many folks have run some gas through the system and noone I know has had to replace anything other then the filter.

cancel that price check on isle 5

Once again, thanks for the info. I left a message for my 24v buddy with his wife tonight. Seems he is hunting so I guess he's not that worried about things too much right now. I know he will give me a call asap and we can work on flushing the system out and getting things going again.

Get this, he was quoted 18k at the Elk Grove dealership here in the Sacramento area. That was for a new ISB drop in. Ouchie!

Steve.

Fuel contamination like this should be covered by his insurance. I agree that probably nothing other than flushing the system will need to be done, but on the off chance the injection pump has been damaged, he might want to contact his insurer.
