i have been a staunch dino oil backer but i am going to change with my 03. syn is the way i am heading and it will be amsoil 30005w-30 or delvac 1 5w-30. the only consideration now is the price d/f. amsoil=$ vs delvac1=$ i dont need to be convinced or swayed, price will be the determing factor for me. thanks for any future response.

Thats interesting?? I did not realize that they changed the oil requirements for the 3rd generation CTD to a 5w30 weight in a warm southern climate like your? Reguarding your oil question, I would think you could get hooked up as a distributor of Amsoil and get a better price then buying Devlac retail. I'm sure from a quality standpoint it is 6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen of the other. Good luck. By the way how many miles you plan on keeping this truck?? 2,000,000

Mobil Delvac 1, 5-40 www.avlube.com delivered to your door for under $25. 00/gallon.

Locally I buy it for under $20. 00 a gallon.

Don't know how this compares in price to others, just passing on information.

I think you'll find the Amsoil 5W-30 very expensive; and in NO LA you really don't need to use a 5W-xx oil.

I live one state further North than you, and have settled on Amsoil 15W-40 for now. I believe Amsoil 15W-40 and Delvac 1 5W-40 are very close in both price and performance. I know some on this board have been doing comparitive oil analysis and are collecting data to see if one outperforms the other; I'm eagerly awaiting their future posts.

thanks for the response, i will try avlube.com (thanks ron) if i can find delvac for $20(what kind of store are you finding it this cheap?) then that will be the ticket.

yes pit i plan on keeping this truck for 2million miles:D

I use Delvac 1 for a lot of reasons, one being that it is relatively easy for me to find when travelling (which is most of the time). I am usually able to find it for around $20 a gallon at Wally World.

CATCRACKER,

The place I find it around here is a little bulk oil place called orchard oil (uncle mike and JohnE) lead me to this place. The other stores around here sell it for more than $25. 00.

For others that read this thread.

Buyer beware when purchaseing synthetic oil, only Mobil Delvac 1, amsoil, redline are true synthetics. There is one more that comes to mind but am not sure if it is a true synthetics (royal purple) so I will not list them.

Delo 400 5-40, rotella t 5-40 are not true synthetics, they are only group III oils.
