Ya sounds weird but need a little more help from the fellers that always come through for me. Guy stopped by our house today wanting to buy my '93(in my sig) and was driving a 91. 5 D350. I didn't pay his much attention and told him I'd sell mine only for the right price. We just talked for a little while,he looked my truck over and wanted to hear it run and all which I showed him. I'd much rather have a stick so I just ask him if his was a automatic, said no it was a stick. I looked at this truck,91. 5(I guess he said it was intercooled I didn't raise the hood) D350 reg. cab "stripper" rubber mat, vinyl seat, flatbed, painted wheels but its got new white paint, has the drivers fender, grille, bumper bent, said the feller that owned it before bumped into another truck of his sitting in the driveway. Otherwise a straight truck, stock as a rock. Oh and new brakes all around. My 93 is a CC 4x with all the bells and whistles(LE model) flatbed, new tires etc etc etc. I told him I might be interested in trading because I'd kind of like to have a stick. So the question I'm wondering is what kind of price difference would you say there is between these two trucks? I know a price is anything two fools can agree on but how much "boot" would you say to ask this feller if we traded? He said he needed a 4x to get to his job sites(owns a excavating company) and to pull his cattle trailer and get to the cows out in the pasture sometimes. Also if I did trade, the D350 would be seeing some upgrades soon. I need one to pull a trailer(hopefully a 25ft gooseneck) and my trail truck(86 W150 with 1 ton axles and 44" Gumbos) up and down the hills and valleys here where I live. So how would the Getrag hold up to mods(like PODs,HX35,straight piped,BHAF is probably what I'm looking at) with the trailer and truck up and down hills? Once again I wrote a book, sorry

You'll get used to the reg cab- my first 4 pickups were all ext cabs. I dont think I'd go back, personally. But then, I'm single, no kids (thank god for the kids' sake). Drive the 2wd, and see if the transmission shifts smooth, what noise, if any, it makes. Crawl under it and pull the fill plug, and see what the oil looks like. if you cant get to oil with your finger, add another grand to the boot- you'll need a rebuild soon. Check out the rest of it as you would any other vehicle. Check the hydraulic function of the "new brakes. " The guy who has my old 93 W350 had brakes done, and the pedal still goes halfway to the floor- needs a master cylinder or something... ... . New pads are a small part of brake work.

If the 2wd is in similar shape as yours, and allowing for the dent on his, and assuming about 150K on each, I'd say $3-4k boot. If his isnt as good as yours, adjust accordingly. You said you are in no hurry to get rid of yours, so dont come down for him. OR... .

You could look up both prices on KBB, et al, and subtract the value of his from yours.

Getrag durability

Contrary to what some here and elsewhere will tell you, if you start out in good shape, and maintain it per the now- common practice of overfilling by at least a quart, dont lug it, then you should be good to 800lb-ft, IF you use it correctly. No drag racing at a GCVW of 30K. (need to heed my own preaching here). No speed shifting if it dont want to. Treat it kindly, but make it pulls its weight, and it should last. Mine has withstood 80+ in way under a quarter. That was empty, though.

If you start out with the Getrag on its last legs, then all bets are off- replace and upgrade. Or pass on it altogether.
