Im new to TDR... my first post. I have seen the light and am ready to purchase my first CTD. I am looking at a 98 2500 QC 12 valve 5spd. Its white, with aftermarket bumpers, gooseneck hitch, rhino liner, appears pretty clean, 145k miles. Guy said he'll take $15,500 for it. He seems to be knowlegdable about proper maintence and says he has changed all the fluids on a regular basis. Is this a fair price? Is the milage too high? Anything else I should look at as far as the condition of the motor. Thanks.

That's the needle in the haystack of Dodge Cummins trucks!! :--) They only made a few 98 Quad Cab (4-working doors) 12 Valve trucks. Even if it was a club cab its DEFINATELY worth that tag! That's what I gave for my club cab I have now back in June and it only had 139K on the clock.

DEFINATELY snag that one up! :D Oo.

I forgot to add...

Only bad thing is... it's a California truck.

Would you recommend taking it to a Cummins dealer and letting them look at the engine?

Since he seems kinda knowledgable ask him about the KDP and 5th gear nut to see if he has fixed them. Maybe ask to see some maintence records or take it to a dealer you trust. If nothing else take it for a test drive and bring a small screwdriver along with you and pop the intake hose off the turbo. If theres any dirt or other junk in the hose ya know he hasn't been so rigorous about his maintence and you can also check the turbo for in/out play (some up and down is okay). Oh you can also look at the AFC cover towards the back of the injection pump, if the front passenger side bolt is not rounded over (no slot for a screwdriver or hex shaped for a bolt head) then somebody's been in there. I always take a buddy along when I look at a truck if it's on a lot, salesman don't pay as much attention to them so they aren't distracted when their looking at the truck. And you'd be surprised what you would miss and they catch.

i got my 98 quad cab 12v with 80,000 miles leather interior fully loaded and i paid $16,000... i think he is a little high on the price personally

Cal trucks are only 180 hp and have egr which is hard on the engine.

A local guy here in Albuquerque has a 97 215 hp 5 speed with something like 65,000 miles on it for that kind of money. KDP was contained. See the classifieds. I've seen the truck and as I recall it was nice.

i paid 15k for my 97. 127k miles and 5spd. i wouldnt settle on a california truck. truck is in fair condition. i payed too much. good luck :)

I got my 98 Qcab,2wd,auto w. 3. 54 gear,has everything but leather 128K mi

f. 11K in Feb of this year,I seen alot in the 14-18 bracket but waited this one was so nice & clean & kept in a garage.

I found this on Trader online.

I see it has a gooseneck. This indicates the longbed. When I was looking for mine finding everything I wanted in a LB was definitely not easy or cheap. I had to pay a little more to get what I wanted without driving to Texas. I would suggest asking how much weight he towed on a regular basis. As great as the CTD can be the Dodge part isn't.

Yep I know... ... I've got one, that's why I don't want to sabotage it.

If it has the 215 pump go for it. Not to bad of a price. Its not a great deal but doesn't sound like a bad one if its in decent shape.

BTW I paid 14,500 for mine with 62000 miles on it and its in perfect shape.

Just get it!

Don't be afraid of it because it is a Ca truck. I had mine since day one. . just get it and dump all the egr crap and you will be happy as I am. Oo.

Got mine last September. Probably paid too much for it (19k), but it is just what I wanted and how often do you come across a 98 12v 3500 5-speed this nice with 102,000 mi. It was a cowgirl truck. Completely stock running gear (for now). GN hitch. Take a look at my readers rig for pictures. Click on User Links for picture album. If you think I paid too much, I'll send it back... ... NOT :D
