I've been thinking of taking the bed off my truck and building a custom flatbed. I was just wondering what a good sale price would be for my bed.

8', rhino lined over the rail, couple of small dents & scratches. Comes with the gate, lights, fender liners ect.

Suggestions guys?

Thanks

I've got several trucks I've done this too... . changed out the bed... . I usually sell the tail gate by its self..... that will usually get 300 or so... mine are brand new when sold... . the bed is usually coated with a bed liner... and we had goose neck hitches in each truck so there are some holes in the bed... . and if I get 500 I'm lucky... . most guys want to steal it for 200 or 300 bucks... the last time it was a 3500 dually bed with good fenders etc... . the local wrecking yard gave me 600 for it as I remember... The plastic fender flairs, for the dually without lights are close to 800 each... so I went to the local DC dealers and offered them the bed for 800 cash..... but no takers... .

Most guys who have damage want their insurance to pay... . and want new parts... those why have to pay for their own parts seem to think we should give it away... .

I had one of my trucks backed into..... when it was in a parking lot... the damage was to the quarter panel and fender flair, lights etc... it was like a 3 mph hit by a truck backing up... . damage was 3700. 00, it was a truck that was going to get a flat bed in 90 days anyway so I took the cash and smiled...

What I guess I've said is that I don't have a real answer. . however a good used bed in AK is going to be worth 2x's what one is worth here because of the freight costs to get it there... Good luck.....

I bought a used 8' bed (if you can call 14 miles on it "used") for $1200 in September for a 1991 D/W250. I thought it was a fair price, especially since all it needed was buffing and waxing, and it matched my paint. For one that has a few more miles on it, I'd think that $800 is very reasonable. I even sold the used (rusty and rear-ended) bed for $200 to a Dodge dealer employee - he offered first. You might try eBay, and look for freelance haulers on www.yesterdaystractors.com -> Community/Hauling Schedule. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Mark

I sell and install flatbeds and I used to buy the boxes off the PU's I worked on. It has been my experience that if you are looking to sell they are worth $500 and if you are looking to buy they are worth $1000!!! Good luck.

That's a case of right place-right time. You find a guy needing a bed and yours is the right color you just hit gold. Other wise they can be hard to get rid of. I sold a new take off 3rd gen dually bed a year ago on Ebay for around $700 WITH bumper, gate, lights, and factory hitch. That's all it would bring. Could have sold the gate for $300 if I wanted to seperate it and ship it...

If I was in alaska I would buy it but that is too far from Pittsburgh Pa!!!!!

Pete,

If you need a bed, the place where I picked up my truck also happens to sell used beds "imported" from Texas. J&J Sauer They're in Sandy Lake. 724-376-2768 I forget the exact prices, but they seemed reasonable.
