I'm wondering what people are paying for diesel fuel around the country. Here in central PA it's now at $1. 92 a gallon. From what I've heard there is no legitimate reason for the dramatic increases, just good excuses for gouging everyone.

In the Houston area it ranges from 1. 799 down to 1. 659 depending on the area of town.

Don't we brew this stuff down here?

Over here..........

Been paying from 1. 65 to 1. 77 the last couple of weeks.

Back when I bought my truck Diesel was the cheapest thing at the pump... ... . $0. 95. Wouldn't mind it so much, but I hate paying a premium price for a by-product.

In the Seattle, WA area it is $1. 75 to $1. 99 and climbing.

Well I have to update this, the same station that was $1. 99 on Wednesday 3/5 is now $2. 05 on Thursday 3/6.

I drill oil wells in the United States of America for a living. (actually Texas, but ya'll are welcome as long as you behave) That is, oil & gas feeds my family and pays my taxes.

What is it with ya'll, that when the price of a raw material increases, ya'll can't figure out why the finished product costs more?

I produce oil & gas. Just like any other business, I have fixed costs and variable costs. My fixed costs are just that, fixed. My variable costs change. So if I work hard, manage my fixed costs and the FREE MARKET provides an increased demand for my product; so be it. When the price of oil & gas is down, the cost of drilling goes down. when the price of oil & gas is up, the cost of drilling goes up.

Did, ya'll pay attention when the United States Congress said they were going to start an investigation into price gouging until they found out that the higher prices for gasoline in various parts of the country was primarily due to the specific "blends" mandated by the enviromentalist wakcos which causes shortages and drives the price up.

Dowg,

My understanding from what I watch and read is that there are no shortages of crude oil or diesel fuel right now. The people at the top of the oil supply chain just have a good excuse to jack up the prices right now. Everyone down the line then has the "legitimate" reason to raise their price because their "cost" went up. I think every step of the chain is making a little more profit, maybe their "extra profit" is legal, but it is still immoral.

The price of crude has not changed that much the last few weeks, so where is the justification for these rapid increases in diesel fuel prices? There is no shortage.

When you can show me a LEGITIMATE reason for the price increases, I'll gladly (while still discontent) pay them. The oil industry is one of the only ones I know that can name their price, and GET IT  . I too am in the manufacturing business. The product I make is not relevant- but as in many if not all maufacturing, raw materials and pruduct manufacturing costs go up. *I* can *NOT* get away with passing on the increases, because of competition. The Oil industry seems to have a monopolized control on pricing, for whatever reason, all of them pass along similar price increases. Most of the other industries EAT price increases. So don't give me the BS sad song about material prices increasing... ... ...

No offense to you Dowg, I would personally love to become dependent on domestic oil and I certainly wouldn't want you to starve... ..... But I do happen to notice that Texas enjoys much lower prices on fuel than average;).

BTW- when's the last time you saw an Oil Co exec driving anything less than his $70K Lexus or Gas gulping SUV?
