I just sold my 99 Ram and have the BD exhaust brake, torque loc and pressure loc units out of it. About 6,000 miles on the equipment and it cost $1449. combined new. Anyone have any idea what I should ask for it all? It's super clean and was installed plus removed professionally. Thanks.

this should help

used BD exhaust brake $500. 00

Pressurelok $100. 00 - $150. 00

Torqlok - do your fellow mwmbers a favor and throw it away or

destroy it

The torqlok has NO resale value at all

*** Why didn't you sell them with the truck?

Thanks for the advise. I'm not sure what problem you've had with the torque loc but lots of folks run them in the Rv pulling world. I never had a problem and it worked great.

In retrospect, the equipment should have been left on the truck. My thinking at the time was that the buyer's market would be broader without it on there. Thanks again.

Evan-Best to ya'all at the Powershop. You guys are great!

A lot of it has to do with the operator. There is a chance of ruining clutches if it is left in the "red" position. But as long as you know how to user the thing, I don't see why it is such a problem... I have installed plenty of 'em.

I'd like to know this whole story too.

Well we all know how

Bill K. is against the loc. Some peole say it ripps up the transmission some like it. I dont need one nor do I want one. Just another thing that I have to worry about.

*LOL* Bob. :D Sounds like you've been brainwashed... *LOL* Just kidding. :D

Anyways, I have installed a lot of TorqLocs, and I have not seen one ruin a transmission. If there is a problem, I would like to know about it, and what can be done to fix it. Certainly, BD would not sell a product that "kills" a transmission. Like I say, it all depends on if the person operating it knows how to use it.

Bill K, chime in here anytime, we all want to know the facts about the TorqLoc. :D

***Bob, I just read every post in that thread (took a while, lots of info), and what exactly did you want me to see? There's no mention in there about what a TL does to the transmission/converter.

Evan,

As most of you know when the subject of the torque loc comes up by blood pressure goes up. Instead of talking about the torque loc itself this time, let me see if I can better explain my attitude using a standard vehicle as an analogy as that is what you drive and may be more familiar with.

I have built a new contraption for the standards. Trust me Evan you will love it.

The beauty of this system is, and you will love this Evan as you are working towards being an automotive technician. What it does is it will lock your standard transmission into 5th gear and will never let you shift out of 5th unless your vehicle speed drops below 30mph.

Now Evan, think about the advantage of this type of system, you never have to shift, it doesn’t care what kind of load your truck is under, whether you are driving down the highway empty, or loaded, it doesn’t care if you are climbing a hill towing with a 14000lb trailer behind you. Pretty amazing isnt it.

I mean what is the worse thing that can happen, now i know you are working hard at becoming a mechanic, what i tell my guys is that there is more to being a mechanic than simply changing parts. You have to understand the systems and be able to analyze the problem before you can solve it. I have been a transmission technician for over 20 years and i am still learning new stuff every day.

I would like your honest and fair evaluation on my system; do you think it will cause any damage to your transmission and clutch?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Bill, thanks for the reply. :D

I see exactly what you mean. But wouldn't re-setting the switches in the TL to unlock the converter at 40 or so mph make things better?

I think a TL type of device with a TPS/APPS signal would be the solution...

Have you solved this issue in your Smart Controller? How are you dealing with the lockup issue with exhaust brakes?

Look forward to more on this subject! :D

Evan,

I am disappointed that you are not going to buy my contraption for your truck. My camero desperately needs the money. (lol)

I realize business is about making money, however as a future technician keep a few things in mind along the way.

Credability is something you cannot buy, it is hard earned, as a technician you must look at the benefits of a product as well as the negative aspects.

Most company owners do not want customers talking to their technicians, because a good technician when doing his job properly will advise the customer on the pros and the cons of any job.

While your circumstances today may dictate your views, always remember when giving advice to choose your words carefully.

You probably have driven lots of dodge automatics, this should be an easy question for you.

What are the engine RPMs at 40 mph, rear end ration 3. 54 od gear ratio . 69

Is your transmission tc more likely to slip at low rpms, or at high rpms?

How does centrifigual force within the tc affect the holding capacity of the tc clutch?

On your own personal standard vehicle, are you more likely to slip your clutch in 5th gear or 3rd gear?
