Prime-Loc Setup On 24V ISB Engines Can Cause Injection Pump Failure!!!

So can you run bigger lines to cure this problem? If not why wont the bigger lines work? Is the fuel filter causing the problem, wont the stock filter do the same thing? Don't take me wrong, I just want to find away to save my prime-loc and my engine.

thepitts, if I understand correctly, the major restriction is internal and it doesn't sound like you can do much about it. Installing larger fuel lines would provide no benefit at all, if that is the case #ad

I think thepitts is saying, if the severe restriction lies in the hoses supplied with the Prime-Loc kit, then why not just replumb them with -6 or -8 Aeroquip. A previous post has suggested that the Prime-Loc head has adequately-sized porting is not the problem.

During testing of the 24V Prime-Loc system, we tried upgrading the lines to 3/8. " The smallest opening in the supplied lines with the Prime-Loc was roughly 1/8. " By going wiyth the bigger lines, we gained about 2 lbs of pressure. Not an acceptable improvement.

So whats the verdict on the Prime-Loc? Replace the hoses to larger diameter and reinstall or send it back to Prime-Loc?

Doesn't hurt to try the bigger lines, just be sure to do before and after pressure testing. And I don't mean just pressure at idle... Do a driving fuel pressure test. Go up a hill and give it full throttle, and see what happens. If pressures are still too low, take the Prime-Loc off until a remedy is found.

Here's my test results on my '98. 5 ISB with an original powermax and 275 hp injectors, I forwarded this info on to ash-tec last week for their research. This was with an almost brand new lift pump, only about 1,500 miles on it.

Here are the results of the fuel pressure test on my truck done Tuesday evening at Cummins NW on their dyno. First a little background information. My truck is a '96 automatic with a stock power train rated at 180hp at 2500rpm. I now have 83k and the truck dynoed at 136hp. The fuel filter has 11k miles on it. The pressure test results are as follows; Pressure at lift pump output was 27psi. Pressure at injection pump input was 27psi. As you can see they are the same values. I am not a mechanic, but I would say that there was no loss of pressure between the lift pump output and the injection pump input caused by either the fuel filter or the Prime-loc. These results apply only to my truck at the time it was tested and other members should feel free to pursue their own solutions.
