Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting Mini 14 vs coyotes

I just picked up a Lee Loader and I'm getting confusing info. I want to load 44Mag pistol and need to know which primer to use. Being new to this I bought Magnum Pistol but I'm being told that I should be using Large Pistol. Who do I believe?

I bought CCI and they had Large pistol and large pistol Magnum. Counter guy at Sportsmans Warehouse said to get the Magnum, so that's what I bought.

You did just right. Load developement will determine the necessity. There are brands of primers that will work for both applications and other brands that are seperate classifications. I have used both large pistol and large magnum pistol primers in my . 44's and settled on the standard LP primer for cast bullets and the Magnum large pistol primer for full powered jacketed bullet loads. Your powder and bullet will determine which primer to use. The best thing to do is go buy a couple (or more) of the better loading books, study them. Also join the NRA.

I dont think you want to use anything except what your reloading book said to. I have never bought factory ammo for any of my 60 guns (except 22 ),My dad started me out reloading when I was 10 and I still have all my body parts. I think that the folks that write the books know more than I. Just my opinion. :)

I agree with the recommendation to stick with the load data from the manuals at this stage in your reloading experience.

What powder(s) are you planning to use?

Mike
