Can anyone tell me the procedure for priming the fuel filter canister by means of the key switch method... ... forgot.

bump the starter

I just turn the key and "bump" the starter; the engine may not even turn over one complete time. I leave the key in the "run" position after I have stopped the starter from turning over (this lets the lift pump continue to work, I think).

I usually do this about three times with about 30 seconds in between. Then, I'll turn the key and hold it until he cranks..... sometimes it takes about 10 seconds before the engine catches.

I don't know if this is the correct procedure or not. It has worked for me so far and I've done about four or five filter changes.

Bigmo is right.

I usually bump my starter and let the pump run four or five times though. Mine won't start and stay running if I only do it three times.

Yeah, I'm right there with ya! TDR is simply the best source of information available on our trucks. Truly an invaluable resource.

What's really so great about this forum is that we are all able to help one another just because we enjoy it, not because we need to or have to do it.

The members' attitude here is part of what being an American is all about - strangers helping strangers and thus becoming friends. What a GREAT Country! :D

Interesting... . I only have to "bump" the starter once... . listen to the pump run for ~25 seconds, then start it.

I have tried to "bump" more than once, but for some reason the pump doesn't run after the first time. Never could figure why, other than it won't cycle if it doesn't need to?

Seven filter changes since new.

Did mine this afternoon and cycled it two times after initialy filling the canister..... no problems, but I was able to cyle it two consecutive times. Probably could have done more if needed.
