Pro Comp Tires -- Anyone tried these?

I'm in the market for some new tires. I'd really like a Rickson setup, but I can't afford it at this time.

I'm in the process of lifting the front 2" so I'd like to put on some 315-75R16s (34. 5" or 35").

I'm looking hard at Pro Comp tires (probably the mud tarrains) but the only reviews I've been able to read were on lighter trucks.

Does anyone have any experience with these tires on a heavier rig like ours?

Any input would be most appreciated.

Kyle, I have heard good reviews on the Pro-Comp tire also. Unfortunately, I have 19. 5's on my truck so I can't help you much there. My experience with mud terrain tires on my 2500 was not good. I never got more than 10,000 miles out of a set. The other thing I learned is that more expensive isn't necessarily better. The best mud tires I've had were the cheapest. Just my opinion.

I a little worried about mileage myself. The "All Terrain" has a 50,000 mile warranty (pro-rated after the first 10% tread life) but I really wanted Mud Terrains.

Whatever I end up with, if they don't get any better mileage than my last set, it's Rickson next time.

Any more input on 16" mud terrains????????

any good mud tires for the 19. 5 rims?

Turbo-D, I've been looking for mud tires for 19. 5's for two years and can't find anything. I've seen Cooper Super Traction for 20", but not 19. 5. Those are pretty decent in mud. We run them on the back of our bigger brush trucks at the fire dept.

The best 19. 5" mud grip I could find was the Michelin XZT. (XZT photo and specs)

Second best was the Bridgestone M716 (Click here - then click M716 in the Medium Truck column).

People are said to complain about the road noise with the XZT's (a good thing in my book, when it comes to mud grips) but WOW! Are they ever expensive! On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of miles are not uncommon on a pickup.

I'll probably go with the Michelins if the Pro-Comps don't work out.

I would look at the load ratings on the Pro Comps to see if they match your present tires.

I was able to get 43K on my 285/75/16 Bridgestone MT's, 10K on my 1500 4x4 (16x7) + 33K on my 2500 4x4 (16x6. 5). I am currently rolling on 235/85/16 Dunlop MT's on the stock 16x6. 5's; Discount measured the tread depth at 43K and I had used 25% of the tread. The lugs on the Dunlops are spaced farther apart than the Bridgestones but they are mounted on the proper width rim and running at a more appropriate pressure. I would have expected them to outlast the Bridgestones by 15K but I doubt it will happen.

I have been asked why not AT's and my response is alway's the same... if I ever get stuck with MT's, I can blame the weight of the truck; on the other hand, the first time I get stuck with AT's, I have only myself to blame and the AT's to doubt.
