OK now that I have 15k on the filter and I think it is time ti clean it, i need advise. What do you do while the filter is drying? How long does it take to dry? cani out it in the dryer or microwave? do I put the stock back on while drying ? thanks Ski

The easy way to clean the filter if you do not have the proper cleaning solvent, would be to spray Heavy with Simple Green. Let the simple green soak in and do its thing for about a minute, and rinse throughtly ( not pressure wash) and repeat if necessary. Allow to dry outside in the open sun, turning it say every 15 minutes or so, get all sides drying ( do not put in Mirco wave, oven or use compressed air ) as this may damage the filter element . This usually takes about an hour. Spray a light oil, or what I use is the K&N oil and let soak into the fibers. Do not over oil. Maybe another 1/2 hour or so, re-install. I usually do this around every 15,00 miles or whenever it appears dirty. I do this when I do other servicing, such changing oil, differential, trans etc. Buy the time you finishing doing other servicing your filter cleaning and re-install is also done.

A fan helps the dry time

I also use the Simple Green. I wasn't too impressed with the AFE cleaner solution. As Heberam said, soak with the Simple Green for a while and I just run water through the inside. Make sure you run the water from the inside or clean side towards the dirty side. I have a room fan that I sit the filter in front of to speed the drying.

Well I bought a second PG 7 filter just to make things simpler. I put on the clean one then clean the dirty one. I also use Simple Green, but I mix in 5 gal bucket with enough to cover filter, pre-spray with Simple Green then soak in bucket for 5 minutes or so. Rinse from inside out with water hose and no pressure. If it still looks dirty then I do it again. I let mine dry on the shelf for a day or two and then reoil, and put in plastic bag and box it. It is then waiting on the shelf for the next use.

I run the K&N filters on all 7 of my vehicles, do the same thing, have a spare, let the dirty one soak, clean it, shoot it, bag it and put it in a box on the shelf.
