It's nice it sits low toward the dash, but IMO it looks like in the photo it sits so low it almost touches the dash and kinda looks goofy. Might be hard to clean between there too.

Gauge Mount

I just installed my gauges. I used the dual pod mount from Diesel Dynamics and the HO combo and temp gauges from Geno's. It was stated in another post that it takes a little trimming to get the mount to fit but once you do it looks good.

Night Light

The instrument lighting is a bluish-green and the Westach gauges come with a green light bulb condom that is close but not exact. Overall I like the appearance at night but not as much as the day. I tied the gauge lights into the radio dimming wire (orange wire with blue tracer on radio harness) and the gauges do dim but not as much as the panel lights.

I wonder if the bulb can be replaced with a weaker one. Where did you pull the power for the gauge?

Thanks for the info!

Power Wire

To the right of and behind the emergency brake you will see a bundle of wires going to a white plastic connecter that is located behind an enclosed junction box (?). The brown wire with the pink tracer is key on hot. Here is a picture that might help.

Re: Power Wire

That does help, thanks! One more question though, where did you tap in to the radio harness? It looks like right there near the power wire. I was just wondering if I was going to have to go up behind the radio to get to it.

Also, how long did the entire install take?

Radio

I removed the radio and tied into the wire at the radio connector. The dash comes apart really easy, just make sure to remove the screw by the trash bag hook to the right of the radio. All together it took me 4. 5 hours (includes trimming and painting column pod), but it should go faster knowing which wires to tie into.

Re: Radio

Thanks again.

When you said the lights don't dim as much as the rest of the dash does that mean that it is brighter than the rest? Or, does it just stay brighter when the others are dim?

A friend was saying that I could put a resistor in the lighting wire to reduce the brightness of the bulb.

Dimming

The gauge lights do dim with the dimmer switch but they are just a little brighter than the panel lights at the same setting. A resistor in line with the gauge light wire would work, you would just have to keep changing the resistor (ohms) until you found one that gave you the brightness you were looking for.

I'm about 70% done on my gauge install, a pair of Westachs just like jdh63. I picked up the power at the same place as him, but for the dimmer I tapped into the Orange/White wire coming out of the headlight switch. Seemed easier. The switch panel (along with the vent above it) just pops out with some tugging. The orange/white wire is on the bottom of the connector.

All I have left is the temp sender wiring, hooking up the boost hose and boost fitting from PDR, and installing the thermocouple.

I just finished. Arrrgh.

I spent most of the day troubleshooting why the boost gauge didn't work (EGT worked fine). Turns out that I didn't look at the picture above closely enough, and I tapped the LIGHT brown with pink tracer wire, instead of the DARK brown with pink tracer wire. And if the Westach gauge doesn't have power, the boost doesn't function. But the EGT does. Wierd.

My fault though, but I wanted to point it out before someone else does it too. :) Gotta toss that in the FAQ. .

That's cause the EGT guage is "powered" by the thermocouple, the manifold heat is the source.

Got my ProPod today, but what's this note about "DO NOT INSTALL IN TRUCKS WITH SIDE AIRBAGS"?

Seems pretty far forward to interfere with deployment of the bag.....

It appears that the front portion of the side curtain air bag extends into the A post almost to where the outside mirror is attached to the door. In the event of a deployment, the A pillar cover may be forced inward. Maybe the thought is they don't want you to get whacked in the head with a set of gauges. Certainly any screws you put in there may cause damage as well. I have not had mine apart to see what is is behind the cover.

Dimmer Wire

David,

I tried to find a dimming wire off the switch and didn't have any luck (I do have the service manual). I got frustrated and went to the radio wire as a backup location. Your way is the easier of the two, thanks for the info.

Called Geno's today about ProPod's warning to "not install when equipped with side airbags". Turns out they called the maker last week on this and were told that the statement is part of the generic instruction sheet, and it does not apply to the '03 Rams, and to tell customers "not to worry about it, go ahead and install".

No question, the sheet has nothing about Rams (or any vehicle) on it.

Hmmmm.

Have always trusted Geno's 100% and they have always done good by me.

What to do, what to do?
