For JOY - Diesel starting to get out-of-sight

3208 power increase instructions

Man, can you believe these guys! Every post I find the mileage is less and less for boasting about.

Pretty soon it will be, "Just drove 8 miles from the dealer and I am problem free!"

Or, "Just turned over 10 miles and Torqshift is shifting normally!"

Then, there is the "Coloskier" dude who doesn't research and buys a used 03. It's back at the dealer for a reason!

I mean for Holy Crap sake, they are boasting about problem-free mileage and they still have the dealer tags on!

You know, I am hard on these 6. 0s owners, but just like people love to watch Rain Man or Forrest Gump, it's so sad, but so fun!

I think if I had a 6. 0 (which I never could bring myself to stooping that low) and I got 2500 miles without problems I would brag on it too! It would definetly be one of the better ones.

You're right, it's all relative. For us, a Cummins with one lift pump in 50,000 miles is good, for them, a problem-free truck in 20x less time is great!

It will be interesting to see if the new 6. 4 common rail powerstroke will pan out. I just talked to a ford tech the other day and he said that a change will be good (so he might catch up in the service dept. ) but the 6. 4 is more technical. So how come they cant get the 6. 0 to run but going to a more complex motor? The tech also said that he had a class on the motor and rumor has it to be around the 400 HP mark.

How about this coment

at that site... ...

As for the mighty Cummins, it's got it's own problems. Ask my buddy about his fried fuel pump, the $1400 injection pump that died at 100k, his leaking head gasket... not to mention all the issues with the Dodge part of the truck. Only thing I see different on the Dodge site is that the owners have a different attitude towards problems - just as many problem posts as here.

At least it made it to 100K!

I agree with hammersley, our dodges have problems too! Mine is a pile of junk! I've got 125,000 mile on mine and had to put ball joints on it once and a new set of batterys! What a pile of crap! I'm just not sure I want another dodge and take a chance on these kind of problems again!

But was your buddy's truck with the fried components 'stock' or was it 'owner' tweaked?

I have 170K without any engine problems. Sure, I've replaced a shutdown solenoid and throttle cables, but have yet to touch the engine.

A friend drove his 96 375K on the original pump, injectors, turbo etc and only had a clutch, starter, and alternator. No engine.

The B Series is a very durable engine and outshines the Duramax and Powerstroke in reliability.

A battery that last 3 years is a lot now a days. It has to due with warping of th eplastic cases shorting out the cells. Big Deal. You think this is going to be different jsut because you buy a Ford or GM?

Ball joints I'm with you but not if you've changed to bigger tires than stock.

Parts are not as durable as what I remember in the past but I've had my truck 9 1/2 years and would not hestitate going cross country - that's a good feeling. The Cummins is a rock - oops, that's the other guys. :D Oo.

My wife's 04 6. 0 excursion has close to 40k on it with a programmer installed from day 1. no problems thus far. Been to the dealer 1 time for a warped interior panel. 10k miles where with a 12k tag in tow.

On another note, had a buddy of mine buy a new 600 cummins and threw a rod through the block in the first 1k miles.

I guess I should have put the little snicker icon ( :-laf )in there because the way I treat those batterys they should have went bad a lot sooner! I don't have bigger tires but ball joints to me is a major wear item and was to be expected. (although they should have grease fitting on the lower ones). As good a truck as this one has been, there is no way I'd consider a Ford and their problems! I'm not that easy on trucks and this one should have had more problems than it has (don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining). I can't speak for the new one but I have a lot of friends and family driving 2nd gen cummins, and hardly ever hear of problems. Thats why we have them! PROBLEM FREE TRUCKS!! I was just being alittle sarcastic in the above post.
