I bought one of the electronic Pop & Lock for my 05 and I'm having trouble hooking it up. The wiring instructions that came with it are wrong as I found out when I called the Pop & Lock folks and they gave me another pair of wire colors to try. I just got done tearing into my truck for the second time only to find that the new colors they gave me are wrong as well.

I was told on the last phone call to use the tan w/pink striped wire and tan w/2 orange stripes. I found the tan w/2 orange wire but I don't have a tan w/pink.

Anyone happen to have installed one in an 05 or just happen to have their drivers door panel off and can tell me what colors are on the actuator?

I'll try and call them in the morning but I doubt they will have any additional information, I just don't want to risk taking the door panel off if I don't have to.

Thanks,

Lee

The wire colors for '04 & '05 are different than an '03, which is probably what your directions are for. I don't have my P&L instructions with me, but I believe the wires you want are Light Green and Tan w/orange stripe?

I put my Pop & Lock power tailgate lock in a couple of months ago. So far it has worked well, but the installation was difficult. My online reseller didn't tell me about the available wiring harness extension for long-bed trucks, so I had to extend the harness myself. Also, the included blue plastic splice connectors are very cheaply made, and come already closed. I accidentally broke one trying to open it, and they didn't provide any extras. So far the broken clip is holding with electrical tape, but it isn't correct. I emailed Brian Mitchell, CEO of Mitech (who makes Pop & Lock) with my concerns, and he replied that they had recently switched brands of splice connectors to cut costs, and the new ones did not work quite as well. He offered to send me additional splice connectors, as well as an extra solenoid in case the original fails out of warranty. I accepted his offer, but so far have not received these items.

I installed popnlock on my 04. 5 I love it with my roll top keeps everything locked up tight . Just beware if you have issues with the tailgate not unlocking the shaft starts binding in the delrin block just drill it out a size bigger using your # drill bits.

Got the wire colors figured out and got it installed the other day. Thank for all the tips.

I did notice it did bind a little when engaging so I clearances the holes slightly and sprayed everything down with some white lithium grease. I did also notice that the wiretap connectors were of a much lower quality that I would have expected. They got tossed as soon as I opened the box and replaced.

I have an ARE shell coming next week which will have the electronic lock as well so I'm hoping the combination will keep the bed pretty secure. I'm still having some withdrawals from sending my Suburban down the road when it comes to hauling gear. Those withdrawal pains seem to disappear quickly when I crest Snoqualmie Pass, still passing cars, and suddenly remember I'm hauling a 5000lb race trailer. No worries.

I've only had my truck for about two weeks and my TDR membership has already paid for itself. Thanks guys.
