I've been having a problem w/ my truck going into what I now figured out to be limp mode. Somethimes after I coast through a turn or at a light, when I give it some thottle, nothing happens till it is almost floored. Then it excelerates just fine at full thottle. If I turn the Comp off everything seems back to normal. Although lately it will set the "check engine" light and set the P1693 code. I have the pump wire attached w/ a "scotchloc". Yeah, I know. I've been meaning to solder it for about a year and a half. It this the same as the infamous alternator spike problem that is causing the TC to unlock?

I installed an edge comp on my 01 3500... . I had the same problem... . it would set the check engine light all the time... .

After several phone calls I finally got the truck with someone who knew the system... . they checked my installation... . and they assumed we had made a bad connection... . once they went through the process 2 times... they finally replaced the box... and it runs great... . it was a problem with the box... it had been that way since day one... .

BTW, several calls to edge got me no where... they wanted me to either send in the box... or pay for a replacement till they got my old one... . had the old one not tested bad... . I would have payed an exchange fee..... I wasn't happy with those words. .

But the truck now runs great with 70K on the clock...

Jim,

Thanks for your reply. Edge has already replaced the box once. Actually, they sent me a new one and a UPS sticker to send the old one back. This was last spring. Very easy to deal with. The new box took care of the problem for a while, but it seems that w/ the cold temps we've been having lately, the number of times it does this has increased. I did not replace the wire harness at the time of the replacement, so maybe that has something to do w/ it. Probably not though.

Hey Tom!

Howdy Tom!

How's everything in MD. It's great here in TX. I don't have an Edge, but I do have a TST PM-3. I had the same problem on my '00. Replaced and soldered all crimp conectors. Ended up replacing the box itself.

I soldered a lead to the pump wire on my '00 and soldered a connector to the end of it for the pump lead. It was a serious PITA soldering this and using liquid electric tape to insolate. I have a TST grabber on my '02 that works great and is easy to install. It will work on your setup too.

Well, stay warm. It was 64' in Del Rio today.

Take care and say hey to everyone.

Hey Ron,

Good to hear from you. Missed you at Kaufman's last fall. How's Viv? I see you have her truck turned up a little LOL. There are a few things I'm going to try. Such as soldering the pump wire, check into isolating the alternator, and check the batteries. They are new Wally-world batteries, but they don't seem up to snuff. I was reading an old TDR and John Holmes had a problem w/ his new '00 throwing codes and it turned out to be the batteries. They replaced them and it stopped. Hmmm. I suspect in the end I wind up getting a new box, but I want to eliminate as many other possibilities as I can. I've heard (maybe from you) how much of a PITA it is to solder the pump connection... ... ... ..... Well, It's been b*tt freezin' cold up here. , but suppose to go into the 50s today. 64* down there, Huh? You've probably been down there long enough now to thin your blood out and are now planning on asking for a issue of arctic gear, right? LOL..... BTW, Sold the house and will stay around here for a little while. Plan on moving out west next spring. Depends how Kaitlin does w/ college, etc. Talk at you later.

Mine buddys 99 with same mods as mine except for FASS, does the same thing, no throttle response then after about 10 seconds it will come back, useuly at highway speeds with the cruse on, also tested yesterday while pulling a load of horses, that it will only do this when the fuel tank gets down to 1/4 tank, at 1/2 to full it runs smooth and good. Also at 1/4 tank fuel pressure drops from 15 to 10 psi and 0 at hard acceleration pulling hills with 14,000 pound trailer load.

I will be installing a Grabber on both trucks soon.

Instead of messing with the solder, get the bluechips pump cover. A lot less drama and makes for a clean installation. Ive had mine for almost 2 years now and never so much as a glitch. I would suggest a little di-electric grease under the connections but other than that straight forward and easy. just my . 02

R,T, Ron, Well... . I guess we know who's surfing TDR at work. LOL

rubberneck, Good point. I saw one being installed at the last dyno meet for the local chapter. Thanks. I'll check into it.
