I've been having problems with my EGT gauge lately. It doesn't read right ie: sometimes when I'm running down the road it will read 300 deg. and then jump up to 800 deg. Sometimes it seems to read right but I don't trust it. I've checked all the connections and everything seemed tight.

Anyone have any ideas? Is the gauge shot? Or could it be the probe?

Thanks,

Lonnie

If you give us just a little bit more info we can help... . what brand, what model? How long have you had it? How long has it been acting up? Stuff like that...

JR2,

Not sure the make or model. It says "H1" on the face and it reads 0-1500. I bought it from a truck parts house in Portland about two years ago. They specialized in gauges.

The first I noticed it acting up was about 3 months ago. It just stopped working for a short time and then started bouncing around for about 10 min. and then went back to working and no problems until about a week ago.

I pulled the gauge two days ago and checked the connections there and they seemed tight, same with the connections at the probe. Maybe I should check the length of the wire for any breaks?

Thanks,

Lonnie

Guage Woes

I had same prop with my Isspro EGT guage. I'm sort of glad, because I got the "wife OK" to replace them. I think it was the hot lead on the probe.

Incidently, when I put on the Autometer guage, it acted the same, but was only a loose connection.

You said that you checked the connections, so I would guess that it is the probe, as earlier stated. Or as you stated, it might be a chaffed wire.

Good luck.
