Has anyone experienced this, what may be the problem? While driving along in 6th gear at 70mph, a loud rattling noise began. The noise sounded like a coffee can containing nuts and bolts was being vigorously shaken. At the same time blue/grey smoke was billowing from the exhaust pipe. The smoke was thick enough that my vision was obscured, upon stopping and as the cloud reached the truck. The vehicle is a 2004, 2500, Laramie, with manual transmission, 4X4, towing package, quad cab, short bed. The malady occurred at 1,027 miles and the engine oil level was between the high and low marks on the dip stick. Currently the vehicle is at the dealership and the problem is being diagnosed. All I know is the Dodge/Chrysler towing package works well.

The dealer's maintenance shop has identified the problem as a fuel injector that was locked in the full open position. They don't know if anything else is broken or damaged and say they need to fix the injector before other problems can be identified. Now a question for all you smart people out there. Would injecting too much fuel into a combustion chamber cause other problems? Has this situation put the O2 sensors, filters, seals, metal parts of the vehicle, or anything else at risk? As a reminder the noise made by this failure was loud and chaotic.

Oil will get diluted and could cause turbo bearing failure.



Make sure that is noted on the repair printout that the engine should be on watch for diluted oil component failure.



Personally I think you'll be fine. Make sure you or they change the oil before they start it after replacing the injector. You don't want diluted oil running more than necessary.
