Fuel in oil test result

slow to idle, pulsing while coasting

Symptoms:

Started tonight and turned on exhaust brake. Seemed to idle a little rougher than normal but didn't think much of it. When I started driving under light throttle, there was a pulsation in the engine noise. For the rest of the drive, it would inconsistantly hesitate when starting from a stop - felt like the exhaust brake was still engaged even though I was on the throttle - before it would take off. Also, when letting off the throttle, the exhaust brake seemed more aggressive than normal.

Will a code get registered without the dash CEL on?

Background info:

It's a 2009 2500 with the automatic. 19,000 miles. Always have exhaust brake engaged, keep 5th & 6th gear locked out when driving around town. Hasn't really been worked since towing the RV last fall. Never have had the message about the DPF plugging up since new. J35 update was done last fall.

Run into this before or any ideas?

It was probably in the regeneration mode. It's very difficult to tell when the ECM has directed a regen unless you have an exhaust temp gauge.

I don't think it was the regeneration. I can usually tell when it's going/gone through a regeneration from heat and smell when I park it.

This was different in that when I tried to accelerate from a stop there was pronounced resistance which would go away in a second or two.

I checked the codes on the trip odometer the next morning, but none were listed.

Sounds like a turbo cleaning or replacement is in order. Mine did stuff like the exhaust brake sounded like it would not stop after I came to a halt and I would have to goose the throttle to get it to quit. All that went away last July after they replaced the turbo and did the J35 flash. Also, clean your MAP sensor which is plugged into the intake horn on the drivers side. Its probably caked with soot and it measures manifold air pressure and helps the engine manage the air/fuel load. If its crudded up, you may get inconsistent signals to the ECM and weird conditions without a CEL being lit up. Takes about 15 mins to pull it off and clean. Look at the thread I posted today for some pictures.
