My truck died going up a hill, and would not re start. It was towed and I contacted a friend to look at it. I called Geno's and had them send me a BigLine Relocation kit and I picked up a new lift pump.

No codes showed up, so we replaced the pump and installed the kit. After priming the system, still no start. We checked for codes and found the DEATH CODE! Long story short, VP 44 has been replaced, and when we tried to prime the system, LIFT PUMP did not work! My friend check all fuses and relays that he knew of, still nothing.

I've been borrowing cars to get to work, and I'm loosing friends fast doing this. haha

Any ideas on what to look at?? THANKS IN ADVANCE, Scott

Go back to basics. Check voltage at your lift pump. Remember you will have to bump the starter and then you will have about 25 seconds to check it. My guess is if you never got it started after the vp install you still need to do some bleeding

Bob's right. Check yer voltage with a trusted volt ohm meter. If you have to, put the old lift pump back on just to get it running. Keep in mind that changing all that stuff has taken a lot of fuel out of the system, so your gonna have to bleed it using the lift pump. At the least you'll run batteries down trying a 'dry' start. I tried it one time and that's exactly what happened.

Also, these puppies sometimes take a lot of effort to get re-primed. First time that happened to me, my heart sank cause I thought I must have killed it. :{ Not so, just a leeetle more work and patience. If you just changed your VP44 (and hopefully your fuel filter too), try loosening the supply line on the VP44 and cycling the lift pump (once you get it going) until fuel flows out. You can do this by just 'bumping' the starter and getting a long run on the lift pump. Retighten the fittings and now you are ready to bleed the injectors. Don't worry about getting them all, just 'crack' three or four. (I usually lay shop rags underneath to keep all the fuel from running down the back of the block and all over the floor. ) It'll run rough for a few minutes, that's ok, it's just clearing it's throat. :-laf

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. My problem is that there is no power to the lift pump. This is baffling because it worked after we installed it. We used it to try and prime the old VP 44, but since replacing the VP 44, the lift pump will not work. I thought that I would ask everyone here, before ripping into the wiring harness.

I will definately use your tips to bleed the system once I get power to that darn lift pump.

Thanks, Scott
