I am wanting to change injectors in my stock '01 with 78k miles to get better fuel milage and maybe some extra power( any suggestions on which injectors to get and where to get them is appreciated). What can I expect this upgrade to cost me?

Anyway is this something I can do relatively easily and what is the procedure?? thanks

Baron,

changing injector is pretty easy. Should take you about 2 hours the first time going slow. You can probably to it in 45 minutes when you are good at it. Use a valve cover bolt as an injector puller (same thread) and you will need a 19mm stubby wrench.

Somebody will post the instructions... I see them on here all the time.

As far as what injectors... do you tow? what is your budget? do you mind smoke?

PM me your email address and I'll send you a set of instructions. There are some copyright laws involved with posting them.

yeah I guess I mind smoke... ... I tow very little but I do have a travel trailer. I would like to get the best so I guess you get what you pay for?

I just installed some of Don's 1. 6 sticks. I'd send the instructions but my hard drive crashed and the link is gone. Do a search for F1 or, better yet search for Member Rip Rook and call him he's got the deal on everything and is straight up. He'll explain everything so you understand and recommend what is right for what you are looking to do. He's not about rapeing anyone for a buck, just out to make customers happy realizing they will return in the future based on his good customer relations.

What is a good size to go with for injectors. I'd like to stick with the stock turbo for the time being.

There is no answer to that question. What is your ultimate power goal? What turbo's are you considering? Do you need to tow, how heavy, at what altitude? All things that MUST be considered when choosing injectors.

Yep, do your homework. Do it once and do it right! Buying what you want now will save you a lot in the long run. I am on my 4th set of injectors. Yes, I wish I had bought this set the first time!

As mentioned above, you have to consider your goals with the truck. There are so many injector options out there, so take your time and choose carefully. Don't buy something because everyone else is buying it. Buy it because it fits exactly what you are looking for.

... and maybe this is under the 'too obvious' category, but check the classified section for used sets from those of us that HAVE bought a set and are moving to another size! A lot of them have a season or less of use.

Secondly, find some folks in your area that have modified trucks and go for some rides. Feather River Rattlers are in your neck of the woods.

I don't really care about #s, but highest I can go with stock turbo and trans.

Yes I tow, what's the point of owning a diesel truck otherwise??... about 7k lbs, alititude... hmm. all over the U. S, mainly Idaho and Utah.

I am trying to do my homework, which is why I posted instead of just buying something.

You're going to average a relatively high elevation in Idaho and Utah and with your yowing needs at altitude I hesitate to recommend a very large injector. My advice would be a Mach 1. 6 EDM. That should give you adequate fuel and stay inside of your stock turbo. For a few hundred dollars you could upgrade your turbo to a 35/40 hybrid and help temps a bit but maintain good spool. Rip @ Source Automotive would be a good source for these injectors and he's got a lot of experience with the 24 valves too if you want advice or have questions.

First of all, you've got to go with an injector from Don M of F1 Diesel. Secondly, I would also recommend a set of Mach 1. 6s. I ran them for several months and was totally amazed at the power, lack of smoke, and extremely low EGTs. A stock turbo will definitely keep them cool.

I tend to recommend that you go with a dealer in your region. All of Don's distributors are excellent to deal with but I would go with either Bob Wagner or Rip since you're close to the Northwest. Check out the F1 site below:

Keep an eye open for sales on these injectors. Olee Poole probably does this most often. He's also a good one to deal with, but like said - they all are.

I was glad I mentioned Don's sticks. Also glad that I returned to this post as I was able to easilly recapture the links I lost when my HD crashed. Gotta love the good ol' TDR. Hey Nate - you're getting some good advice here - call any of the guys mentioned. Speaking for myself I spoke with Rip and even though he's on the other side of the valley from me (in PA here) he was straight up and willing to help. Very knowledgeable. It's definitly worth the phone call. MHO

I hope my previous post didn't come across as being rude. If so, I apologize. I had a bad day at work, and I shouldn't have let it reflect in my post.

I am pretty much a newbie in terms of diesel performance. I understand where alot of you guys feel my question is "lame" for lack of better words. I have done a bit of research, but there are SO many products out there, and of course all claim that they are the best.

I bought my truck mainly because I wanted a truck, and I found this one for a great price. I wasn't even looking for a diesel since I figured they would be WAY out of my price range.

The primary use of the truck is my daily driver, and also I use it to pull my Jeep (http://www.98JeepZJ.com if your curious).

I know changing out the turbo would help out, but I really can only afford a couple things here and there. I know how easy it is to put 10-15K into a vehicle... I did it with my Jeep!
