These observations apply to the 3rd gen in my sig.

On hot days (here that means 80), under hard acceleration the truck would get to 24-2500 rpm with boost near 23psi, and all of a sudden nothing. The boost would drop to zero. It first happened while a hauling about 16K lbs. I would back off the throttle, accelerate more slowly, and get to speed and everything was fine. This would not happen in the mornings when the ambient temperature was in the 40s. The truck threw no new codes (P0633 has been showing for a long time).

I recently replaced the fuel filter, and the new fuel filter didn't change the occurrence. The next step was to clean the Proguard 7, even though it was cleaned a couple of months ago and the wife has been driving it to and from town not on dusty roads. The FilterMinder pegs even with a clean filter (with the exception of what you see the truck is bone stock). The air filter cleaning seems to have corrected the problems.

I live at 7800 ft elev which may contribute to the sensitivity to the Proguard 7 cleanliness. Anybody seen anything similar? I can't imagine adding much more fuel and continuing to use the Proguard. Is there something better out there? I have the Megacannon on the '97. Maybe I should switch the '04 to it. I'm open to suggestions.

I'm also wondering if I'm seeing early signs of a lift pump failure.

I've got a PG7 in my 06. I live at 5500ft and mine is overdue for cleaning. I have never had any symptoms like what you are describing. I recently pulled my 29ft travel trlr up to camp a few weeks back in 90 degree heat at an elevation of 8000ft and never had any issues. In fact I was still getting 25-30lbs of boost. All of this was with the TST set on 3/3.

It sounds almost like it's sucking the intake hose shut. Make sure you're cleaning it rite. I don't know much about those filters but I don't think it should move your filter minder until it gets really clogged with dirt.

There are some threads that mention the filter minder problem, and it may be that mine along with others may have gotten one with the wrong spring.

As for cleaning procedure - I have the sock on both of the filters so I don't get bugs and such, and it may be the contributor to the filter minder issue on the '04. They seem to accumulate a quite a bit of dust. Perhaps I'll try a different amount of oil the next time around.

I would remove the prefilter "sock" completley, it plugs rather easily and will cause the filter to collapse!! Seen it happen to buddies truck... (lazy SOB served him right!!) he now cleans his filter, changes fuel filter and oil regularly! :p
