Well, I finally moved into my new house and christened the garage with a 3 week project.
First, I installed this:
#ad
Second, these Optix gauges:
#ad
Third, the long overdue Walbro + Racor 2 micron filtration project:
#ad
Fourth, the Stage 1 CP3 (this is my stock CP3 for illustrative purposes):
#ad
Then, this afternoon, finished installing these BD twins:
#ad
The only things left to install in the garage are SBC DD clutch and upgraded hydraulics, but I think I'll wait until next month to enjoy my truck for a bit (plus to keep peace with the fiancee
)
Some may question why I went with the BD twins. Well, what can I say? But I have been thoroughly impressed by AK Ram's honest evaluation of them that I jumped at the chance of buying the used twins upgrade portion of the kit from him. The rest of the kit I sourced through various TDR member vendors and in all I'm only into the twins about $2900. I can also say, that AK Ram is correct in that these things spool darn quick offf idle. They are not like a bigger single where the single is, "wait... wait... wait... smokey... then... BAMM!!!"
And now for the Stage 1 CP3. After some initial panic at first startup when my truck wouldn't idle and then sputter and quit and then me thinking that I forked over some dough for a POS CP3 and cursing some vendors, I made some quick PMs to Jeff K and AK Ram who confirmed that I probably had to work the air out of the fuel system. So off I trudged back into the garage and fired the beast up. Idle soon settled to 5250 psi rail pressure and it was time for a test drive.
Is all I can say.
Putzing around town is now about 12,000 psi as opposed to 9,000 psi or so. Off idle and throttle up with TST on 1x1 is pushing you into the seat, girlfriend is screaming at me to, "SLOW DOWN AND TAKE ME HOME!!!", while grasping at the holy crap handle with both hands! Power delivery feels a lot smoother and less "peaky" than running a stock CP3 with an electronic pressure box.
I also noticed that I totally lost the really annoying timing rattle I consistently had before these upgrades (stock CP3, SPS 62 turbo).
Yes, life is good! This week I just have to finish hooking up my exhaust and oil pressure gauge line.
