Broken Kubota head bolts?

V8 Cummins for sale on Ebay!!!

Last night a crane operator from my job was starting his shift as I was leaving. He stopped me and says did you hear this new propane injection system came out for diesels. Has he been sniffing too much propane making him a littleOo. or is this true??

Propane injection is nothing new. It's a cheap and risky way to get more hp while keeping egts down. There used to be quite a bit of discussion about it here a couple years ago but it seems to haven fallen out of favor due to many reports of engine damage.

I had a Power Shot 2000 propane setup on my '91 - it worked quite well and was very flexible - could be set to favor power, or economy - or anything in between. It is especially neat for good power gains on older trucks without electronic engine controls, as long as you don't get carried away - as is true with ANY power mod. On newer trucks, you can do better, easier with one of the popular power boxes like the Edge stuff...

Propane

I disagree with the statement that you can do better with a fueling box. I've dynoed well over 100 hp with LP and I would add that the mileage gains and lack of egt appreciation put propane into a different category alltogether. For towing I'd rather run propane then a fuel box.

More info would be necessary to discern wether a box would be favored over propane.

Well, perhaps I should define my interpretation of "better"...

For ME, it's "better" to have a power enhancer that doesn't take up any more bed space, one I don't have to monitor frequently for fuel level, or fill separately and in addition to my primary vehicle fuel supply - and one that doesn't go empty on me right when I need it most...

YMMV... ;) :D

Actually, I've been a fan of propane injection since installing it on my '91 - it's just a lot simpler to get similar capability from a power box without the more complicated propane setups - I can adjust my power levels right from the driver's seat, where to get the maximum power levels with propane in systems I have seen, it's a bit more difficult - or impossible - to make a wider range of power application from the driver's seat while in motion - and you might NOT want maximum power capability (OR propane consumption!) at all times - I frequently switch from maximum to moderate power with my Comp when towing, depending on terrain...

Again, YMMV...

OK guys no:-{} . I was just curious. I am looking for a way to boost my hp but I am worried about my warranty. 7year 100'000 miles is a long wait. What can I do that will not effect it. the propane option is a nogo because of my job. I travel from jobsite to jobsite and sometimes have to travel through a tunnel under the Boston Harbor that forbids propane--$5'000 FINE--:--)

Injectors

I recommend a injector upgrade. Either II's, or my fave, III's. There is no visible give away to tip the dealer. No wire tapping (they are watching for this) for them to find. Smooth power across the powerband. We have seen improvements in fuel economy.

OK truck diesels are new to me,they are much different than my two tractors when it comes to working on them,so what you said about those injectors sounded like"%^ *&% !$^*^@#@@ $^ *#@#$^ &^%@@^"" to me but what you said about the dealer not knowing is what I'm looking for,I do all the basic maintanance to it myself ,so could I put these in myself??? and whats the hp gain???

DIY Injectors

Yup, most folks do their own injector installs. It's about 1. 5 hours or so, depending on interuptions. Horsepower gain on III's is approx 90 rwhp.

HVAC - you are pretty experienced with injector upgrades - what do you feel is the biggest injectors I could install in my Comp-equipped '02, that would provide the LEAST negative impact on driveability, fuel mileage, etc. , empty or lightly loaded, while delivering a worthwhile power boost in towing situations?

I'd consider adding injectors IF I could be reasonably sure that wouldn't sacrifice overall driveability and fuel consumption when the extra power isn't really needed - and yeah, I'm aware of the other drivetrain stress issues...

Injectors

I've tried everything and then some and I feel the stage III injectors are the BOMB:) If you only had one thing you could afford - III injectors. If you want to tow heavy - III injectors. Drivability - III injectors. Economy - III injectors. III injectors benefit not only from larger holes in the tip (more fuel), but from a better fuel spray pattern as a result of the extrude hone process. As Dr. "P" used to claim, the injectors increase power without adding fuel (well not as much as a fueling box). His claim is partly true.

For those that want a smorgasbord of performance upgrades I would start with III injectors and work up from there. In this mode you drive around ( or tow) at about 300 hp with the III injectors and the Comp on 1 or 2. Then, when you want to play, you take advantage of the adjustability of the Comp and turn it up for a lil blast. With the combo of the III's and the Comp your going to have to do something about egt's or you might find yourself with some cracks in the cyl head from heat. Exhaust, turbo housing, or turbo would be ways to drop the egt. Clutches are suspect with the Comp/injector combo.

I would say that anything above III's is pushing the envelope IMO. Too much smoke for the street.

HVAC

I'm fairly new to the cummins game. Just recently bought a 91' dually, essentially bone stock except for loosing the muffler and adding a K@N. I have a 7k fifth wheel and am changing my rear diff gears from 4:10 to 3:55 shortly. I want to start BOMBING and am curious about III injectors. What gives better gains- smaller turbo housing and injectors? just injectors? just smaller housing? The truck is essentially used to pull a few sleds to the mountains in the winter, but will be primarily used to pull the trailer in the summer. I'm getting used to the 23+mpg I am getting now, how will economy be hurt with the mods? Thanks

PS. Is it possible to get the insignia you have as wallpaper, looks pretty cool!

I'm First Gen Illiterate

"D",

Let me put a couple of your thoughts together-

With that kind of mileage I might be tempted to leave things alone.

On the first gen the injector selection is limited. I would crank up the fuel screw in the pump and go for a smaller turbo housing.
