My switch over valve is supposed to switch on its own when one tank runs dry but it has not the last couple times it ran a tank dry.

I have to move the lever over towards the full tank. Then it takes a long time (hours) to switch the valve from red to green.

I dont know why this happens, is it getting air in the lines or bad valve?

I sucks when you run dry in the middle of a cold night.

How old is your changeover regulator valve?

Remember the Propane regulated pressure is only 11 inches. The diaphragm has probably gotten hard with age or there is a wax buildup in the valve itself causing it to stick. I don't think think that the regulators can be rebuilt.

For the cost/safety I would just replace it with a new one, it may even be an updated version.

I replaced my 10 year old one last fall about $45 I think.

MIne is not yet 2yrs old. I dont know if im doing something wrong or what.

I set the switch to the middle where i think its supposed to be for the "auto" change over but it does not work.

If i move the switch to one tank (pointing to one side) it will work until it runs dry. Then when I switch it over it seems to lose prime (if thats possible). It does not switch to the other tank. The indicter stays on red, even on a full tank.

It acts as if the switch is still towards the empty tank or the full tank is closed (which its not)

The changeover is supposed to happen automatically when you have one of the tanks selected. Pointing the selector up to the indicator is not correct, you have to select a tank. My guess is you have a faulty valve.

Switch your tanks around to make sure its not the tank and if it does the same thing, its your regulator. They don't make anything worth a crap any more, so it being new means nothing. It is not that expensive, just annoying.

Amen to that..... I checked tanks and even swapped in my BBQ tank and it still will not switch over. ... ... ... ... ... . any recommendations on a new one?

Cavagna Group is what I used when I changed over to the new tanks a few years ago. I liked the fact you could clearly see the indicator when empty, but any will work for you. They make a sensor now that has a lite in the RV and will lite up alarming you that your primary is empty, Now that you need new ones it might be a good time for that as well. ;)

I've just purchased a new Marshall regulator/change over valve to replace a chineese unit that worked because I didn't trust it. The new American Made Marshall changes over it self about 50% of the time. The old one worked every time . . . . I've emailed Marshall, but they never answered me back. Don't buy a new one! at least a US made one - - - I don't have any idea what the problem is. If any one has a clue I would appreciate a suggestion.
