Remember the song by Eric Clapton entitled "Cocaine"?

Well, if you've ever driven a CTD with Propane you will be replacing the lyrics 'Cocaine' with 'Propane'.....

i'll let ya take my rig for a spin at the dyno next week!scott(massdiesel) drove it after the install of my PMX and after the dually went sideways at 30mph, scott told me to turn off the propane:eek: it's not for the weak of heart!... . james:D

James

Did Scott really tell you to turn the propane off?????? Please tell me the truth so I can bust his ba!!$ to no end... ... ... ... :D

too much for scott?

george;

scott did say"turn it off!" it went sideways at 30mph with scott driving!(PMX on level 4) it's scary what a little propane will make those cummin's do! ... . see you soon... . james

Thanks James... I was hoping to see your reply prior to me leaving work on Friday so I could bust Scott's ba!!$ on Sat. but the dyno day will be that much sweeter.

Oh yeah... ... take care of your rig well for the next week! See you soon

I've had a Powershot propane kit for like 6 months now... just can't seem to put it in. I need to figure out a clean way to put the hose into that damn psychotty for one thing. I'm also concerned about putting anything but #2 in her for some reason. I guess the blown head gasket stories I heard a while ago had something to do with it.

Does anyone out there run propane in bellow freezing temps?? I am not worried about the engine, just freezing up the bottle in the bed of the truck, or the requlator or or or... ... .

(tongue in cheek)

Try this experiment:

Go grill some chow on your propane grill in sub-zero temps... .

Does it work fine?

Of course it does! I do it all the time!

Now let the diesel experts answer the diesel related stuff... ...

Matt

In all honesty, I have never had or heard of anyone having problems with propane or propane accessories (haha) freezing up... . then again, I don't live in Anchorage like yourself.

It gets cold here (North central, MA), but not gel your #2 diesel fuel everyday kinda cold.

I have grilled in sub-zero (-10*F) temps and have not had any real problems except for that your beer mysteriously freezes somehow... . what a bummer for when you've just funnelled 3 and are taking a break for a few minutes..... :D

Matt

P. S. Maybe they reformulate the propane depending on your location... like diesel/gas. But propane is a liquid under pressure... . so long as it's under pressure and doesn't have any water vapor anywhere in the system you'll be okay..... or at least that's the theory.

There are basically two different systems available... !. vapor ( like your BarBQ) and 2. liquid like on fork lifts... I have a liquid system and perfer it because I feel is much safer, and don't have to regulate tank pressure... In the extreme cold where I live, the vapor system tank pressure has to be set higher and there is a chance of freeze -up. . Most guys that have this type of system don't use much in winter... In the summer months, the tank pressure has to be reduced because of the outside heat... Too much propane is no good! The liquid system works all year around with no monitoring except to refill tank. Make sure what- ever system you go with, don't skimp on quality. On alot of 2001 ETH's a blown head gasket is common when pushing with propane. . I know, I've been there done that... Heber

Who makes the liquid systems? How easy are they to install? And how easy are they to take off for any warranty work? Thanks.

Would you mind describing your system and where you got it. I've been interested in propane for some time and from what I've read, it'll be a liquid system when I get one - but from who?

Work & Pancake... . The system I have is an old Edge Product, the same guys that make the power Edge products... They don't do them anymore, however, Bakers Diesel in Ogden Utah can get the parts for you... . They also do ATS ( advanced Turbo Systems). http://www.atsturbo.com/products/productdetail.php3?prod=20

The difference between the TWO is the ATS looks , more professional ie. , billet material vs a plain jane regulator... You will also need a fork lift tank, that run any-wheres between $100-150 for a 7-8 gallon tank. I have an aluminum 7-gallon I put in My tool box in the bed. Its much llighter than the steel ones and won't rust... . cost was $160. As far as install it takes about 4 hours, running the lines from the back/ or tank. . mounting the regulator, hooking up the water heater hoses, hobs pressure switch and finally in cab mounting of switch... Its definally something you don't put on and take off if you are planning to go to the dealer. These systems are expensive, however, are safe.

I personally, would spend the money on other ugrades, first ie. , larger injectors, fueling boxes, exhaust, gauges, turbos etc. before propane.
