I am in the process of ordering some guages. And was wondering what the proper temps and psi are for the following.

1. Coolant temp

2. Oil PSI

3. Trans Temp

4. Boost

5. Fuel Pressure

6. Oil Temp

Just want to get the right ranges on my guages.

Thanks to All

Not sure on ALL of them, but here are the ones I've had experience with.

Oil press- 20-30 idle, up to 65 on cold start, or when running high RPM.

Boost depends on weight of right foot, and how much extra fuel got added. With stock housing and turbo, it should be just barely off the line at highway speeds on flat-2-3 psi. My 6 trucks have ranged from my current one to a couple 93s, and I have seen 16-26 psi peak with stock turbo components. With a H1C and 12 cm housing, you can hit 30 psi fairly easy. My current one has a PDR HX35-18, and I hit 28 psi at 6000ft. You DO plan on putting in a pyrometer, right? 25 hp penalty if not. On second thought, make that 50.

I'm sure other memebers will chime in on the rest.

I get over 30 psi boost with stock turbo on my 90 5 speed. 27 on mmy 93 auto probly could get if the torq. would hook the engine to the wheels. water temp up to 3/4 guage then the stat opens and down to 3/8 guage. If pulling hard than it stays around 7/8 guage.

You need to be brutally honest with yourself first... then get the guages that will work well, right into the "end result" for your tweaking/tuning.

Oil psi has been addressed.

Boost guage, don't settle for anything less than 40psi... 50 is better... cause we KNOW you're gonna bomb on ... :D:D

transmission temp. our transmission's can run as high as 270*F + so a good guage that runs at least that far is needed... . I didn't say that was good, just that it can get that high.

Oil temps are pretty standard in terms of upper end readings and you can't really go wrong.

Same for water temps

I think the biggest thing to consider is "viewability" and backlighting at night.

Next would be guage location eg: dash pod or A-pillar style.

I sure hope I do not see 270 in the trans:--) , I have installed a powered trans cooler under the bed. As for the guages, I like the autometer ultra light series. As far as mounting I am going to put two on the pillar (boost & egt) and the rest in a pod on the dash(coolant, trans, and oil psi). If you are running a coolant temp guage do guys think it would be overkill to run a oil temp guage? Thanks to all!

GEEEZZZ. What injectors are you running? On the 91, I could probably see 30+ at sea level. The stock turbo had 1/8" endplay, so it needed upgrading. Your water temps sound a LOT higher than mine ever get. I ease up on it at halfway. I live at 6500 ft, which may or may not make a difference. I also cant stand more than a puff of smoke at take off- or at worst, a light haze under full load- which may affect peak numbers. Goes to show no one knows everything. Yes, I may end up getting a 50 psi guage eventually, depending on BOMB money. I agree, 40 is a minimum, though.

I wouldnt wory about oil temp unless you're concerned about the differential. Pardon my asking, but why are you looking at spending all this money on guages? I guess better safe than sorry.

Building a HotShot rig to run between IL and TX and other southern areas. Its a one time shot to build it and make it work. I would rather spend a few $$ on gages than an engine. It will be towing all the time and some pretty heavy loads. Just wish I could afford to go out and buy an 03 and let the warranty pay, but hey the first gens just have more character.

Whats a good A-pillar style pod to get and where are they sold?

Thanks, Rob

Thanks.

I saw that one and ordered it yesterday... . Its kind of a bummer when you see all of those pics of nice looking 3-gauge pillars for 2nd/3rd gens only.

Awhile back when I had my'93, US Gear had a triple pod for on top of the dash that worked out excellent on the first gen's, don't know if they still cary them or not, worth a shot??
