I have what has been diagnosed as a fuel knock from a dripping injector so I figured I could just go with some better injectors while I had them out. I've read all the old posts I could find on 370's but I still have a couple of questions.

My main concerns are that a couple of posts said that I would need to get a bigger turbo for the 370's or I would have EGT issues and that the 370's "hazed". Can someone explain "hazing"? The exhaust fumes are already pretty strong when it is idling.

At the present time my engine is stock. I am also going to install a cam plate and possibly the 3K GSK. I run empty 90% of the time, occasionally towing between 5K-10K pounds. I don't want to go crazy with the bombs, just a bit more power, no more than the cam plate, 3K GSK, and the injectors.

Thanks,

Scott

I ran 370's and a #6 plate full forward with the stock turbo on my 215 pumped motor... you'll be fine, just watch the EGT's.

only complaint I have about the 370's is the fuel consumption... 2-3mpg is really starting to add up at the pump! :(

but the power per dollar simply can not be beat!

the haze at idle is just the faintest grayish/blue haze... I kinda dig it... but it's much better out of a stacked system vs. a regular tailpipe. in the summer, I gotta take the AC off recirculate when sitting at a light for a while. with the miter cut stacks it was a non issue (and looked awesome when filling up at night w/ the truck idling ;) )

Forrest,

Check the thing on the end of your right leg. That's the reason for the increased fuel consumption. :D:D The truck is just plain old fun to drive with 370s. HEE HEE!!

there's a reason 370's haze and smoke the way they do... less efficient burn... IE, lower MPG in all conditions.

don't get me wrong, they're not coming out any time soon! :D

Mine is smokey at idle too. I am getting as good or better mileage with 370s IF I don't walk on it. That last time I noticed a mileage decrease was when the fuel formula was changed because of emissions here in CA. Otherwise I get 18 - 20 running mostly with the cruise on the highway.

Joe G. and Bmoeller, I see Forrest has his timing at 16. 5* did you two do the same? I (when I say "I" I mean R. ebel) ;) advanced my timing to 16. 5 a while back and I didn't get any mileage increase that was reported, but now I read an article by Joe D. about needing to add 370's to get better mileage with timing advancement. What are your thoughts? 20 mpg would be sweet, and I realize it's all in the right foot, but just babying down the hwy now the best I can get at 75 mph is 17 mpg. At 60-65 on summer fuel I've seen 20 once or twice, but who has time for that? :-laf

Try a set of Lennys injectors. They burn clean with a great power increase. No more strong odor at idle and very little to no haze.

I'm running Don Ms hogged out 370s, timing @ 17 & got 24. 8 this weekend. That was 95% hwy. These babys get better mileage than the EDM 3's.

If someone like me does not want to go as extreme as 370's what is the next step down? '95 3500 5spd #10 plate,15. 5 timing

300s are the next step down from 370s.

My mileage is around 17 @ 75 mph. The best I have ever gotten is alil under 21 on a trip highway cruising at 63 mph. I think my mileage would be alil better if my right foot wasn't so heavy.

Back to the question I asked, what about EGT's with the stock turbo? I've not heard of the 300's. Piers offers 215's for $100 more than the 370's, what's up with that? I'm going to spend about the same money on stockers, should I go to the 370's?

I've noticed alot of fellas well over 400hp with nothing more than a #10, 3K GSK, a set of 370's, and bumped timing. That's more power than I want to try to tame. I don't want to change the turbo, and I don't want to have to keep one eye glued to the pyro, I just want a truck that's a little more fun to drive. And before anyone says it, I know... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... that's how it begins! :D

You can see what I have in my signature. With the few times that I had everything full forward I could bury my 1600 degree pyro. I also popped the head gasket running the stock turbo to high with way to much drive pressure. I finally have a new turbo on the way. You can run 370's with the stocker, but you have to be smart about it. Not like me. O-ringed the head pushed lots of boost and just did the head gasket again.

If you run a #10 in the stock location the EGT's won't be as high. I can still cruise past 1300 degrees. If you can find a set of 300's give them a try. Send Dual EE a pm and ask about his setup. A little more tame and maybe more of what you are looking for.

Oh, I dyno'd 382hp and 836 lb-ft last October w/ all full forward for the day.

Can a person run a 16cm housing on the stock turbo to cool it down some? Or a 16cm housing w/ a larger compresser? Or do you need a hx40 or bigger?

Some guys like them, but 300's are a crappy injector IMO. I'm not a huge fan of 370's either but they are a much better injector than the 300's.
