Pros and cons of adjusting the waste gate for increades HP?

While on site delivering some animals I got to talking with one of the land owners, who had a Banks system on his 2nd gen truck. He told me that the quick and easy increase for HP is to adjust the waste gate to open at a higher pressure. I think the Banks system had a replacement part for the vacuum hose. What are the pluses and minuses of messing with the waste gate?

yes and no:



no because boost does not makel horsepower, fuel does



YES because if you have enough extra fuel, the extra new boost will introduce more oxygen and thus burn the extra fuel for more HP



Does your truck smoke much? If not, then higher boost may just stress the turbo with little performance effect
 
i did an experiment.

i disconected the wastegate back when my truck was stock. with the smarty on 4. 4 level 9 i managed 350hp ( 390 on watter meth ) i was seeing 45-50 psi.

i hooked the wastegate back up ( 28psi ) and made 400 on #2 only, with alot lower egt's. i also made 450 on watter... .





more bost is good , if its still in the compresor map, and if your still at a 1:1 boost:drive ratio



another friend tryed an adjustable boost elbow on his early 04, no real change up to about 32 psi, after that egt actualy went up and power went down. we checked drive presures and they were good up to about 26 psi, then it got proportonaly worse the higher the boost.



from the looks of things in your sig..... i wouldnt bother, you'll prob loose power. the only thing i can see that you might gain is a slight performance increese at light throttle.
