ProTcch or Tonneau?

Have found a smooth aluminum over the rail box for $450. Never had a tonneau, but like the looks of the Truexedo? Which do you guys prefer and what do you think of the price? I don't like diamond plate. Thanks, Doc

I have the Mopar tonneau that has the fabric finish and it is really nice. I don't remember the cost but it was under $400. It just clamps on and you can take the whole thing off in a couple of minutes if you want to. This is not the same as the factory tonneau that has the vinyl finish. The top fits into a groove in the rails and is easy to attach and remove as well.

I have had both, I prefer the tonneau cover. For long trips with gear that cannot get wet and is too big to fit in the cab or a box the tonneau works great. The box is nice for holding the jumper cables, tow strap, tie down straps ect... I have been able to find a home for most of that stuff under the rear seat, plus now it is easier to get to.

I took Dean Upson's advice a couple months ago and bought the Mopar deluxe tonneau cover. The fabric is really nice... . much like that of a convertable rag top. It's not waterproof, but darn close to it. Easy to install, easy to remove. No regrets on my end... . I'm quite happy with it.

I have the Mopar folding bed cover. It is rigid and comes in 4 sections that fold back on it's self. It is also lockable. I keep a ton of tools back there for work and it is 99% dry. I can take a pic if you want. Also, the cover removes by loosening 2 bolts. This cover is more expensive though. I thik I paid $620, but that was near cost.

lil red. How do you clean your cover? I do a lot of car wash and was concerned about water damage. Do the rest of you guys run the tonneau ofter in the car wash? thanks, Doc

Forgot to mention mine is an Extang, you cannot hurt it, I have actually cleaned pine sap off it with acetone with no ill effects. The one on my last truck was 5 years old, still looked good and it was on and off hundreds of times.

Advance Cover

Doc,



Just added the advance cover to my truck last night, I really like it. It's the same as the "mopar" folding cover. I asked my aftermarket guy, and he said that is who makes it.



You can get it all over the net for about $500. I found a guy who sells seconds for $365 (mine had a scratch about an inch long on the inside).



Anyways, it rained here today, about 3/4 of an inch and it dry in the bed.



I had a vinyl cover on my 99 and it got cut and tools were stolen. I had a fiberglass on my 01 and it was great, right up to when you wanted to haul something big.



I ran a try on removing this cover completely, it took just under 2 minutes. And it only weighs about 35 pounds (guessing here).

hi doc.



i have had it through the car wash with no problem. the air dryer at the end doesnt bother it anymore than when going down the highway at 70.



when at home, i wash it with one of those truck wash brushes on a 5' pole. works well. water does pool in a few areas because there is no crown to the cover, but it doesnt bother me.

Hey Doc,



The cover is aluminum. There are a good number of web sites that show the locking assy and the details on the cover. They are all basically the same (k-cover, fold-a-cover, and advance cover).



I think you should take a look, like I said, I have had the soft, the fiberglass, and this folding cover. In my opinion there is no comparison. But this is also based on my needs.
