I spent 12 years in my '97 3500; just bought a nice 2006 mega-cab 2500, 4x4 auto. On the way home from Idaho where I found it (Nampa) to central Washington State, with the cruse on at 66 mph the computer told me I had 24. 5 mpg. When I filled it up and did the math I only had 18. 8 mpg. Is there a chip or tuner out there that will help the mileage? I hope I don't start a war here, just looking for some success stories. Thanks. BTW, the tires are stock 265/70/17 and at 66 mph the tach says about 1900 rpm.

At 66 mph mine will get exactly the same fuel mileage.

It is what it is.

Push it to 75 mph and it will drop to 17 mpg.

When the Mega was brand new prior to ULSD it would bang 19-20 mpg on occasion at 65mph but never again after the fuel changed.

Plus you are moving a big truck down the road, wait until you jack it up the first time.

I was amazed at the difference in weight from my previous extended cab trucks. I just never thought about it until I had to lift it. Or try to fit it in the garage..... :D

Mike. :)

My overhead has always been somewhat accurate, but I rarely drive conservatively. I think that is what Mike is saying. For some reason the overhead is way more "optimistic" about fuel milage when your trying to conserve than when you just drive and keep the engine humming at the sweet spot it wants to be at.

The injectors are making the overhead very inaccurate. When I first got my injectors, my overhead was reading approx 25mpg... then when I filled up, it was approx 18mpg.

There is no magic bullet for fuel economy. Tuners will give you more power with the same fuel economy, but I have yet been able to achieve better than 18-19 mpg with mine...
