I recently purchased a ProWeld Super Cooler, (transmission cooler) and just finished installing it. Thought I would give my impressions of the product. Shipping was very fast, five days by UPS to cross the US. When I received the kit it was well packaged and all the parts were there. They also threw in an oil filter, coffee cup and two ink pens, nice bonus. This is a top quality kit, all the fasteners are stainless steel and the lines are braided stainless with AN fittings. The mounting bracket is steel and very well made, nice welds and very strong. It's powder coated blue, which brings me to my only complaint about the product. Some of the powder coating was flaking off the welds. Being a perfectionist, I went to the local hardware store to find some paint to touch it up. Unfortunately I couldn't find a shade of blue that matched so I sanded it all down and re-painted it with rustoleum blue. Other than that, the rest of the kit was perfect.
The kit I purchased mounts on the back of the transmission skid plate. ProWeld also makes a bracket that mounts to the frame rail behind the transfer case. This would have been my first choice but I already have a pusher pump system installed there.
The install is fairly basic with excellent documentation. Remove transmission skid plate, drill three holes, (drill bit included), mount the bracket, re-install skid plate, cut the transmission hard line, (pipe cutter is included), install two compression fittings then attach two hoses from the compression fittings to the transmission cooler. I had a bit of a problem routing the hoses because they were a little long for my application. The hose lengths are made to apply to several model years which made mine a little long. After some creative use of clamps and zip ties, (included in kit), I felt comfortable with the install. The kit comes with its own wiring harness which plugs into the cooler. On the other end it attaches to the positive and negative battery terminals which allows thermostatic control of the fan, turns on at 175 degrees. You can also wire in a switch if you want manual control of the fan. I plan on doing this later. Total install time was four hours, (not counting the time it took to sand and paint the bracket), but like I said I'm a perfectionist and I took my time. During the install I had a couple of questions which were answered by email very promptly, no complaints about the customer service.
I haven't had a chance to see how much cooler my trans runs with this kit installed. The weather here is much cooler now so it may be a while before I can give it a real test. Overall I give this product a 9 out of 10. I purchased mine from Pro Weld on Ebay and got a great deal with Best Offer. I think he is still selling them there if anyone is interested. Hope this is helpful for anyone considering the kit.
